
Panthers Take Second in Tri-Meet at UNH

DURHAM, NH - The University of Pittsburgh women's gymnastics team took to the road Saturday afternoon, traveling to Durham, NH, for at tri-meet with New Hampshire and Southern Connecticut, placing second at Lundholm Gymnasium.
The meet was the first road battle for the Panthers (2-2, 0-1 EAGL) and the first multi-team meet of the 2017 for the Pitt squad. Pitt would knock off Southern Connecticut by a score of 191.675-187.900 but fell to EAGL rival New Hampshire by a mark of 195.425-191.675.
BARS
The Panthers kicked things off on bars where they earned a team score of 47.550. Lucy Brett was the team's top performer, connecting on a score of 9.775 to tie for third. Tracey Pearson and Krista Collins would tie for sixth with scores of 9.675.
A trio of New Hampshire gymnasts landed in the top three as Danielle Mulligan took first with a score of 9.875. Jennifer King placed second with a score of 9.800 and Courtney Bondanza tied for third with Brett, posting a score of 9.775.
BEAM
Pitt moved to beam for the second rotation and posted a team score of 46.875. Brittany West led the way for the Panthers, placing sixth with a score of 9.625. Collins tied for eighth with a score of 9.525, while Lucy Jones (9.425) and Erika Reichert (9.225) placed 11th and 13th, respectively.
New Hampshire took the top five spots on beam, led by Riley Freehling's top score of 9.825. Casey Lauter (9.775) and Meghan Pflieger (9.750) would round out the top three.
FLOOR
The Panthers earned a team score of 48.500 on floor, led by Taylor Laymon and Charli Spivey who each posted scores of 9.750 to tie for fourth. Pearson's score of 9.725 was good for ninth, as Dani Hall (9.650) and Reichert (9.625) placed 10th and 11th, respectively.
Danielle Doolin of New Hampshire took first with a score of 9.900, followed by her teammates Pfileger (9.875) and Lexi Calandra (9.800) rounded out the top three.
VAULT
Pitt wrapped up competition on vault, earning a season-high team mark of 48.750. Pearson was the squad's top performer, earning a 9.800 to tie for third. Meagan Oscar tied for fifth with a score of 9.775, while Ellie Pikula (9.750) and Collins (9.725) took seventh and eighth, respectively.
Three New Hampshire gymnasts placed in the top three on vault, as Nicole O'Leary and Pflieger each earned a 9.825 to tie for first. Marissa Toci tied with Pearson for third, scoring a 9.800.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will return home to Fitzgerald Field House on Jan. 27, hosting North Carolina in an EAGL battle, before taking to the road for the entire month of February. Pitt will kick off the year's second month with at Temple in a quad-meet with the Owls, West Chester and Ursinus on Feb. 4.
