Pitt Meet Notes
PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh women's gymnastics team will host the North Carolina Tar Heels in an EAGL battle Friday evening at the Fitzgerald Field House.
The meet will be Pitt's third at the Fitz this season after returning home from New Durham, New Hampshire. Things are set to get underway at 6:30 p.m.

THE MEET
The University of Pittsburgh women's gymnastics team will return home to host North Carolina for their first home meet since upsetting then 21st-ranked rival West Virginia. The meet is the first matchup between the Panthers and Tar Heels of the season as the pair will meet up again in February.
The Panthers (2-2, 0-1 EAGL) are looking to bounce back after placing second in a tri-meet against New Hampshire and Southern Connecticut in Durham, NH. The Panthers took down Southern Connecticut but fell to EAGL foe New Hampshire, posting a team score of 191.675.
In last Friday's meet, the Panther set a season-best with a team score of 48.750. Tracey Pearson was the team's leading scorer on the apparatus, tying for third with a mark of 9.800.
SCOUTING NORTH CAROLINA
The Tar Heels (1-3, 0-1 EAGL) are looking to recover after falling to Florida at home. In that meet, North Carolina scored a 194.300, but Florida finished with a 197.325, which dropped the Tar Heels to 0-1 at home on the season. In their season opener, North Carolina took third in the Lindsey Ferris Invitational, hosted by George Washington.
In their last outing, Morgan Lane posted a score of 39.250 to extend her streak of 39.000 performances to 11 consecutive meets. She was named the EAGL Gymnast of the Week for her performance, her second honor of the season.
SERIES WITH NORTH CAROLINA
North Carolina holds an 11-24-0 all-time advantage over the Panthers in a series dating back to the 1987 season. The two squads split the 2016 series as UNC claimed a 194.900-193.350 victory in February, but the Panthers edged the Tar Heels at the EAGL Championships in March by a score of 195.675-194.975.
PITT GYMNASTICS IN THE RANKINGS
The Panthers have excelled on floor to kick off the season, averaging a score of 48.708 to rank 32nd nationally. The score is good for third in the region behind just Michigan and Penn.
Senior Tracey Pearson has been consistent on vault for the Panthers, averaging a mark of 9.817 to rank third in the conference and fourth in the region.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will head to Philadelphia for a quad-meet and will face off against Temple, West Chester and Ursinus on Feb. 4. Pitt will then remain on the road for the remainder of February and will not return home until March 3.
