Pitt Graduate Student Center Brandi Harvey-Carr
On playing her final game at the Petersen Events Center:
"I was nervous. I didn't want to end my last collegiate game here terribly. I didn't want to mess up. I tried to play with poise. If I play too upbeat, I sometimes miss my layups and things like that. I was trying to play with poise, play slower and make my layups, and have fun because it was my last game here. That was going through my mind. I had a lot of fun today, playing in pink and playing for a good cause and with my teammates until the end."
On scoring 18 points in the final game of the regular season:
"It felt good. When I made my first couple of layups, I thought the game was going in my favor today. I tried to be consistent on the defensive end as well as the offensive end. It felt really great to contribute on both ends, with my offensive and defensive game. To be in the game, because they're ranked, it felt good."
Pitt Graduate Student Forward Destinie Gibbs
On Syracuse's relentless on-ball pressure:
"They keep the pressure on, and it's hard to maintain the fight and the battle and go against them. It's hard because that's how they practice every day, that's how they play every day, no matter who they're playing against or who they're playing with. It's hard to maintain that fight back. I felt that when we fought with them, we were in it. We fought toe-to-toe, head-to-head with them. They're a tough team, and with tough teams you can't give them any breathing room and I thought we gave them a bit too much.
On playing her final game at the Petersen Events Center:
"I tried to be too calm and too poised about it. I feel like I could have been better defensively. Offensively, I could have helped our point guards better with their press. I didn't come up as much as I typically do. I think it's an amazing experience being my last three years, coming from a different university, seeing a different team culture. Being able to be around girls that I actually love. So many personalities and so many different characteristics and we always find a way to make it one unit. I think despite the game, despite the loss, I'm going to miss them so much. I think that that's the best part of today. Not the win or losses because those are going to come, but the people you meant along the way through athletics and collegiate sports. I think that's the best thing about tonight, being able to be around these girls one more time in this arena."
On having to defend a player with the skill set of Syracuse guard Brittney Sykes:
"Brittney Sykes is definitely an amazing player. Her athleticism and explosiveness, her basketball IQ, her knack for her ability to score. When we set double teams for her, she found the open player. She's just one of those players, like the rest of their team that is aggressive and relentless. She doesn't care if she goes 1-for-10 in the first half or 10-for-10, she doesn't change her game. Our approach was not to try to completely stop her, because she's going to score, but somehow try to contain her. Somehow try to make other players, other than her and [Alexis] Peterson score and make plays for them. I felt like when we did take her out of plays, that's when we were more successful. The times where her athleticism and skills thrived, it helped her team gain momentum and increase the gap between us in regards to the score."
Pitt Sophomore Forward Brenna Wise
On having to defend a player with the skill set of Syracuse guard Brittney Sykes:
"I first want to say that, a compliment to her, she is just one tremendous athlete and player. She really brings a lot to the table. She's a do-it-all scorer, she can shoot it, she can pull it, she can get to the rack. We understood going into this game that Syracuse has not only one, but two of the leading scorers in the ACC. Not only Sykes but also Alexis Peterson. I think Destinie [Gibbs] as well as the rest of our team did a great job of trying to stay in front. It's a learning process. She is going to get her points. That's the kind of player she is. She's going to get her chances, it's moving our feet on defense. Syracuse has a lot that come to the table."
