PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team set the program record on bars and tied the program-high on beam in its 196.225-195.175 win over East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) foe New Hampshire Saturday afternoon at the Fitzgerald Field House.
The Panthers final team score of 196.225 was the third-highest in program history, and the highest total mark since 2004 when the team recorded a 196.350.
Pitt's record-setting 49.275 on bars broke the previous record of 49.200 set in 1999, while the Panthers 49.125 on beam also tied a program-best that was last set in 2004. Pitt also posted a 48.975 on floor and a 48.850 on vault.
The Panthers saw action from 12 of its gymnasts, with four collecting individual events titles. Freshman Haley Brechwald tied on bars, while winning floor and the all-around title outright. Senior Catie Conrad tied on bars and beam, while sophomore Alecia Petrikis won vault and junior Lucy Brett tied on bars.

Conrad, Brett (tied-career high) and Brechwald (season-high) all tied for tops on the team at 9.875. Following that was senior Taylor Laymon and sophomore Lucy Jones (career high) at 9.825. Rounding out the rotation was Megan Tripp with a career-high 9.800.

BEAM
Next up for the Pitt squad was beam, where the Panthers continued their excellent day and tied another program record. The team scored a 49.125 on the event, a feat only the 2003 and 2004 Pitt squads have accomplished. Conrad led the team with a 9.875. Following the senior was Jones, who set another career-high, and Brett, both at 9.825. Brechwald, who recorded a season-high, and Tripp, who performed on beam for the first time in her Pitt career, both recorded a 9.800.
After the third rotation, Pitt led the Wildcats, 147.250-146.150.
