Pitt Drops a 70-41 Decision on the Road
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of Pittsburgh women's basketball team dropped a 70-41 decision on the road Monday night to Georgetown at McDonough Arena.
With the loss, the Panthers move to 2-3 overall, while Georgetown improves to 4-1 on the year.
"I was really disappointed in the way we played tonight," head coach Lance White said. "We allowed our offense to dictate our defense and rebounding. We are still growing and have to understand the importance of rebounding every night. Georgetown is a good basketball team that played really well."
Senior Cassidy Walsh paced the Panthers in scoring, finishing with 11 points. Fellow senior Danielle Garven led the way on the glass, pulling down eight boards.
Dionna White led a group of four Hoyas with double-digit points, recording 15. White also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds. Georgetown finished the game with a 52-36 edge in rebounding
Both teams struggled to score early on, as the first bucket of the night was scored at the 7:49 mark thanks to a three by redshirt senior Aysia Bugg. However, the Hoyas jumped ahead to lead at the first break, 10-5. Georgetown would go on to outscore the Panthers 20-13 in the second quarter en route to a 30-18 lead entering halftime.
The Hoyas outscored the Panthers in the second half 40-23 as they finished the game knocking down six of their last seven field goals.
Pitt heads to Nashville, Tenn., Friday, Nov. 23 for the Challenge in Music City. The Panthers will face Wisconsin Friday at 6 p.m., Arkansas Saturday, Nov. 24 at 8:30 p.m. and Tennessee State Sunday, Nov. 25 at 6 p.m.
