
Panthers Look To Get Back On Track Against UNCW On Tuesday

PITTSBURGH – After a 10 day break, the University of Pittsburgh women's basketball team (6-5, 0-0 ACC) will return to the Petersen Events Center on Tuesday evening as they welcome the UNCW Seahawks to town. Pitt will be looking to get back on track after a loss to West Virginia last time out while the Seahawks come to town with a 5-3 record after a loss to North Carolina last week.

- Tuesday's game against the UNCW Seahawks will broadcast live on the ACC Network Extra and may be viewed on WatchESPN or the WatchESPN app. Kevin Wheeler (PxP) and Amanda Silay (Color) will provide the commentary.

- Pitt will look for a big response after seeing their four-game winning streak snapped by West Virginia last time out. Prior to the WVU loss, the Panthers previous loss was to Wisconsin in Nashville and they responded with a big win over Arkansas next time out.
- Pitt has dominated opponents from the Colonial Athletic Association over their history as they own an 18-8 (.692) record against CAA foes.
- The magic number offensively for the Panthers this season is 60 as they own a perfect 5-0 record on the year when they net at least 60 points. Pitt is also 6-0 this season when they shoot a higher percentage from the floor than their opponent.
- The Panthers (6-5, 0-0 ACC) saw their winning streak ended by rival West Virginia, 77-43, in the Backyard Brawl as the Mountaineers connected on 11 three-pointers and held Pitt to just 30% shooting for the game.
- Sophomore Cara Judkins was the lone Pitt player to score in double figures against WVU as she netted a team-high 12 points, nine rebounds and three blocks in the loss while going 4-for-6 from the floor.
- Senior guard Cassidy Walsh finished off her afternoon with nine points, four rebounds and two steals across 29 minutes of work while connecting on a season-best three triples.
- Off the bench, Kauai Bradley played a season-high 35 minutes while chipping in with six points, six rebounds and three steals in the losing effort.
- The Panthers weren't able to protect the ball against the Mountaineers as they turned it over 28 times and West Virginia turned those chances into 31 points off of turnovers.
SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS
- The UNCW Seahawks come to town on Tuesday night with a 5-3 overall record on the season as they were handed the 82-55 loss last time out against North Carolina.
- The Seahawks are led by Rutgers transfer Shrita Parker who is averaging a team-best 19.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.6 steals while connecting on a team-high 13 three-pointers.
- Old Dominion transfer GiGi Smith is enjoying a strong start to her redshirt junior campaign as she ranks second on the team averaging 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.6 steals while starting all eight games and playing a team-high 33.2 minutes/game.
- As a team, the Seahawks are averaging 68.6 points/game while shooting 41.2% from the floor and 25.7% from behind the arc. They are being outrebounded this season 37.4 to 34.4 but their defense is forcing an average of 21.1 turnovers/game.
- UNCW is coached by Karen Barefoot who is in her second season roaming the sidelines for the Seahawks. Barefoot has been a head coach for 21 seasons and she has accumulated 330 career head coaching victories.
LOOKING AHEAD
- The Panthers will wrap up their four-game homestand on Friday evening as they welcome Saint Francis (PA) to the Petersen Events Center for a non-conference showdown at 7:00 pm.
- Pitt will then have a short break for the holidays before returning to the court on Dec. 29 as they head to crosstown rival Duquesne for the City game at 2:00 pm. The game against the Dukes will mark the end of the non-conference portion of the schedule for Pitt.
