
Panthers Fall in Series to Florida State

Pitt Drops Final Two Games in Tallahassee
Pitt resumed action in a suspended game one, dropping the contest 15-6 before falling in the finale 12-6.
Game One
Down 4-2 in the bottom of the third, the Panthers resumed a suspended game two, as Florida State was able to even the series with a 15-6 victory.
Florida State plated a run in the third on an RBI single, taking a 5-2 lead through three. The Panthers cut the lead to two in the fifth as Connor Perry tallied his 12th homer of the season, a solo shot to center field. Pitt would pull within one in the sixth, as Nico Popa lined a double down the left field line, scoring Sky Duff, who had reached on an error in the field.
A four-run seventh and a six-run eighth allowed Florida State to take a 15-4 lead. An RBI double from JC Mendez and a sacrifice fly from Nico Samarkos scored a pair for the Panthers in the ninth, but Florida State held on for the victory.
Dan Hammer (3-6) earned the loss, allowing four runs off four hits, striking out three in 2.0 frames. The junior battled through two rain delays on Saturday and was relieved by Chris Gomez, who went 4.2 innings, allowing five runs off nine hits and two walks, whiffing four on Saturday. William Kirwan tossed the final 1.1 innings, letting up six off seven hits and one walk, striking out two.
Offensively, Popa continued his hot streak, going 3-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Bryce O'Farrell wrapped up the evening 3-4 with two RBI as Pitt collected six hits in the contest.
Game Two
The Panthers kept pace with the Seminoles early in the second game, but some big middle innings for the home team put the game out of reach.
Florida State took a 1-0 lead in the first off a sacrifice fly, but starter Billy Corcoran would settle in, holding the Seminoles scoreless until getting into a bit of trouble in the fourth. Pitt scored a pair in the top of the frame as Kyle Hess lined a two-out single into center, scoring David Yanni and Cole MacLaren, both of whom had reached on singles, giving the Panthers a 2-1 lead.
Two runs from the Seminoles would come across in the fourth, as Florida State regained a lead. The home team would be able to push across five in the fifth and four in the sixth, owning a 12-2 lead through seven.
The Panthers kept things interesting in the eighth, scoring four to cut the lead in half. O'Farrell would draw a leadoff walk before Perry rocketed his second homer of the day, a two-run shot to right. In the next at bat, Popa would go yard to make it 12-5 in favor of Florida State. The Panthers would conclude the scoring on a sacrifice fly from Samarkos, as the Seminoles held on for the win.
Corcoran (1-6) earned the loss, going 4.1 innings, allowing six runs off six hits and one walk, fanning four. Brady Devereux, Chase Smith, David Moore and Mason Ronan would all see work out of the pen.
Offensively, Pitt tallied nine hits, with Perry and Hess each putting together multiple RBI performances.
The Panthers return to Pittsburgh Tuesday, hosting Western Michigan at 3 p.m.
