PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's basketball team (10-18, 3-14 ACC) dropped their last home game of the regular season Thursday night to the Syracuse Orange, 85-55. Three Panthers scored in double figures in the loss.

Maliyah Johnson led the Panthers with 12 points on 5-for-9 shooting while Amber Brown added 10 points, six rebounds and three steals in the loss. Off the bench, Avery Strickland netted 11 points on 3-for-4 from behind the arc while Taisha Exanor finished with nine points and Liatu King finished off her night with four points, 10 rebounds and three blocks.

FIRST QUARTER

Maliyah Johnson opened the scoring for the Panthers with a triple and a jumper as Pitt was able to gain the early 5-2 lead.
The Orange responded with seven straight points to take the 9-5 lead before Taisha Exanor and Liatu King finished off driving layups to tie the game, 9-9, at the first media timeout.
Out of the media, Avery Strickland knocked down a pair of triples and Dayshanette Harris finished off a steal and fast break layup to push the Pitt lead out to 18-13 late in the first.
The Orange scored the final four points of the opening frame as Pitt entered the second leading 18-17.

SECOND QUARTER

The Orange opened the second quarter on a 9-1 run to take the 27-19 lead and forced Pitt to take a timeout.
Out of the timeout, Exanor and Channise Lewis knocked down jumpers to make it 30-23 in favor of the Orange.
Syracuse responded with a 9-2 run to push their lead out to 39-25 before Johnson netted her second triple of the half to end the scoring for Pitt.
The Orange took the 42-28 lead into the locker room after nailing a corner triple.

THIRD QUARTER

Amber Brown and Emy Hayford opened the scoring in the third with a pair of free throws and a layup to make the Pitt deficit 12, 44-32, just over a minute into the third.
Syracuse came right back with a 10-3 run to push their advantage out to 54-35 before Gabby Hutcherson ended the run with a triple from the wing.
Brown finished the scoring in the third for Pitt as she finished off an and one layup and a contested layup as the Orange took the 61-43 lead into the fourth.

FOURTH QUARTER

Strickland and Johnson opened the scoring in the fourth with back-to-back layups for the Panthers but the Orange responded with a pair of triples to take the 69-47 lead.
The Orange got hot from deep down the stretch as they secured the 85-55 road victory.

TEAM STATS

Pitt finished the game shooting just 38.9% from the floor while the Orange shot 53.1% in the win.
Syracuse won the rebounding battle 40-27 to go along with the 32-24 edge in scoring in the paint.
Pitt turned the ball over 20 times which Syracuse turned into 23 points on the offensive end of the court.

With the loss, Pitt falls to 19-51 against Syracuse all-time including a 12-22 mark in Pittsburgh. The Orange have won 24 straight overall against Pitt.
