Pitt Drops Home Finale To Syracuse On Thursday Night

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's basketball team (10-18, 3-14 ACC) dropped their last home game of the regular season Thursday night to the Syracuse Orange, 85-55. Three Panthers scored in double figures in the loss.
Maliyah Johnson led the Panthers with 12 points on 5-for-9 shooting while Amber Brown added 10 points, six rebounds and three steals in the loss. Off the bench, Avery Strickland netted 11 points on 3-for-4 from behind the arc while Taisha Exanor finished with nine points and Liatu King finished off her night with four points, 10 rebounds and three blocks.

FIRST QUARTER
- Maliyah Johnson opened the scoring for the Panthers with a triple and a jumper as Pitt was able to gain the early 5-2 lead.
- The Orange responded with seven straight points to take the 9-5 lead before Taisha Exanor and Liatu King finished off driving layups to tie the game, 9-9, at the first media timeout.
- Out of the media, Avery Strickland knocked down a pair of triples and Dayshanette Harris finished off a steal and fast break layup to push the Pitt lead out to 18-13 late in the first.
- The Orange scored the final four points of the opening frame as Pitt entered the second leading 18-17.
- The Orange opened the second quarter on a 9-1 run to take the 27-19 lead and forced Pitt to take a timeout.
- Out of the timeout, Exanor and Channise Lewis knocked down jumpers to make it 30-23 in favor of the Orange.

- The Orange got hot from deep down the stretch as they secured the 85-55 road victory.
- Pitt finished the game shooting just 38.9% from the floor while the Orange shot 53.1% in the win.
- Syracuse won the rebounding battle 40-27 to go along with the 32-24 edge in scoring in the paint.
