No. 19 Pitt Drops Hard-Fought Battle to No. 5 Ohio State, 20-17

PITTSBURGH – The No. 19 Pitt Panthers showed their strength in the upper weight classes but ultimately dropped to No. 5 Ohio State in a hard-fought battle, 20-17, at the Fitzgerald Field House Friday night.
The Panthers won five matches, including winning the first four bouts to start the night. Luca Augustine got the Panthers started at 174 with a 2-1 overtime win over e'Than Birden. Reece Heller followed with his sixth-straight victory of the season with a 6-5 decision over Seth Shumate. Heller used a key reversal in the second period to tie the match at 3-3 and won with a late takedown in the third period.
Mac Stout (197) got the third straight win for the Panthers with an 8-2 decision over Ryder Rogotzke and Dayton Pitzer (285) won by a 16-1 technical fall over Hogan Swenski as time expired in the third period to give the Panthers a 14-0 lead.
The Buckeyes showed their strength in the lower weight classes as they won the next five bouts. Ohio State took the lead after picking up three major decisions and a technical fall.
In his first appearance back from injury, Jared Keslar closed out the night at 165 with a 13-11 decision over No. 8 Sammy Sasso to pick up the fifth win for Pitt.

The Panthers will travel to Lawrenceville, N.J. for duals against Rider, Maryland, and South Dakota State next Friday, December 20.
