Panthers Pour in 98 Points in Victory Over Saint Francis

PITTSBURGH — Pitt women's basketball turned in a complete performance Thursday night, rolling past Saint Francis, 98-46, inside the Petersen Events Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Five Panthers scored in double figures as Pitt controlled the pace from the opening tip. The Panthers used an 18-2 run to get out to a 20-6 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Pitt shot 52.2% from the field and outscored Saint Francis 56-22 in the paint to record its highest-scoring performance since Dec. 16, 2008.
Fatima Diakhate anchored the effort with 13 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks, recording a double-double for the fifth time this season. Carla Viegas added 14 points, three assists and two steals while Mikayla Johnson chipped in 14 points on 8-for-10 from the free-throw line. Theresa Hagans Jr. finished with 10 points, three rebounds and two assists, and Lauren Rust added 14 points and nine rebounds off the bench. Amiya Jenkins contributed eight points and five rebounds, while Jayda Queeley scored eight points and dished out a team-high four assists to help fuel Pitt's balanced attack.
Pitt broke the game open in the third quarter, tallying 33 points to tie the program record for most points in a quarter, last set in February of this year. The Panthers followed with a 30-point fourth quarter to push the margin to as many as 55 points late. With the victory, Pitt improved to 7-6 on the season.
