
Nugent Repeats as 400 Hurdles Champion, Lemongo Crowned Shot Put Champion at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA – Devin Nugent successfully defended his 400-meter hurdles title at the 129th running of the Penn Relays. Nugent, who won the event in 2024 with a time of 50.84, won this year's edition with a personal best 50.36.
Norrah Lemongo earned her first Penn Relays victory and prize watch, as she claimed the women's shot put championship. Lemongo launched a 16.34-meter toss as the rain poured down to earn her place at the top of the podium.
THURSDAY RECAP
Norrah Lemongo began the 129th Penn Relays with a third-place finish in the women's college hammer throw. Lemongo connected for a 55.53-meter personal best to secure the bronze medal.
Senior Daniel Amaya also secured a medal for his fifth-place performance in the men's championship hammer throw competition. Amaya launched a 62.99-meter throw on his final attempt of the event to move up from his previous position of seventh.
The women's 400-meter hurdlers kicked off the collegiate track events at Franklin Field. Logan Neely (1:00.28) Jana Bruses (1:00.84) and Mackenzie Sullivan (1:01.00) finished in 23rd, 26th, and 29th places. It was a season's best time for Sullivan.
Abington, Pa. native, Devin Nugent repeated as the 400-meter hurdles champion in front of friends and family at Franklin Field. Nugent trailed for nine hurdles before taking the lead on the final hurdle and sprinting through the finish line in 50.36.
To close out day one of action, Winnie Incorvaia partook in the Women's 10K Championship where she placed 11th with a 34:35.30 time.
FRIDAY RECAP
Alexa Brown started the second day of competition with a personal best in the shot put, as she connected for a 14.08-meter throw to take ninth place in the women's college section of the event.
On the track, the 4x100 relay foursome of Darren McQueen, Thomas McDonough, Malik Ricketts and Stephon Brown advanced to the men's Championship of America final on Saturday with their time of 39.89 in the preliminary round.
Je'Nyia Burton, Caleia Johnson, Endeyah Lane and Alma Evuna Eki competed in the women's 4x200 Championship of America, securing fourth with a time of 1:34.74. The quartet won their heat and nearly broke the 1:34.21 school record set back in 2012.
Jaden Shelton solidified his spot in the 110-meter hurdles final as he stopped the clock in 13.83 to finish sixth in the preliminary heats. Mikhi Anderson, who finished 12th, equaled his personal best of 14.11.
In the women's college discus throw, Niya Crawford achieved a new personal best, 46.45-meters. With her result, she finished seventh overall at the meet and moved up one spot on the program's top 10 list, into fifth.
Both men's and women's 4x400 relay teams qualified for the Championship of America heats. Malik Ricketts, Thomas McDonough, Stephon Brown and Devin Nugent produced the ninth fastest time, 3:07.42. On the women's side, Je'Nyia Burton, Logan Neely, Faith Dennis and Caleia Johnson automatically qualified for the final as they were in the top two of their heat, stopping the clock in 3:35.10. The quartet was sixth in the preliminary round. Their time, the fifth best in program history.
SATURDAY RECAP
Norrah Lemongo earned the second victory of the weekend for Pitt, as she threw for 16.34-meters in the women's shot put championship. Niya Crawford launched an outdoor personal best of 15.47-meters to solidify sixth in the same event.
The men's 4x100 relay captivated the crowd in the Championship of America race. Darren McQueen Jr., Thomas McDonough, Malik Ricketts and Stephon Brown went wire to wire with South Florida, eventually falling as the Panthers landed in second place with their time of 39.76.
The women's 4x400 Championship of America, featuring Je'Nyia Burton, Logan Neely, Faith Dennis and Caleia Johnson saw them earn sixth once more, with a time of 3:36.68.
On short rest, Malik Ricketts, Darren McQueen Jr., Stephon Brown and Devin Nugent took to the men's 4x400 Championship of America, notching eighth place in 3:10.66.
Jaden Shelton concluded the Panthers' participation in the 129th Penn Relays with a bronze medal performance in the 110-meter hurdles. As the rain fell on Franklin Field, Shelton successfully made his way down the back stretch of the track in 13.95.
