Panthers to Host the Hokies

PITTSBURGH - Pitt hosts Virginia Tech for their eighth ACC series of the season this weekend.
The Panthers took the series against the Hokies in Virginia Tech's most recent trip to Charles L. Cost Field in 2023.
Pitt won a game but lost the series in Blacksburg, VA last season. Both of Pitt's losses to Virginia Tech in 2024 were by a total of three runs. (Game One: 5-3, Game Three: 6-5)
Notes
• The Panthers took a game from No. 8 North Carolina this past weekend. Sebastian Pisacreta went 2-2 with a solo home run in game two. Luke Cantwell (2-4, RBI) and Ryan Zuckerman (2-4) each had multiple hits as well.
• INF Caden Dulin had five hits in Pitt's four games last week, including a home run in their midweek against Mercyhurst. He had the first multiple-home run game of his career two weeks ago at Duke.
• First baseman Luke Cantwell is hitting .359 with 56 hits, 36 RBI, 18 doubles and a triple this year. Cantwell is 17th in the country in doubles. He is tied for second all-time in program history in hit-by-pitches with 28.
• Pitt has scored double-digit runs and have run-ruled their opponents in each of their last two midweek games.
• The Panthers' offense ranks fifth in the ACC in hit by pitches and eighth in walks.
• Catcher Jayden Melendez recorded the 100th hit of his Pitt career last Wednesday on an RBI single in the third inning. Melendez went 3-3 with a HR, 2B and a career-high five RBIs. He has accumulated 103 hits, 87 RBIs and 30 HRs in his three years at Pitt.
• Sophomore third baseman Ryan Zuckerman scattered four hits over Pitt's four games last week Zuckerman is hitting .319 and leading the team in home runs (10), RBIs (38) runs scored (37) and slugging percentage (.579). He is second in hits (53) and doubles (13).
• Senior David Pedanou has patrolled the outfield all season for the Panthers. He has 68 putouts with one outfield assist and has yet to record an error this year. Pedanou has made 32 starts in his 34 games played.
• LHP Ethan Firoved ranks second in the ACC in saves with seven. In seventeen appearances this year, Firoved has a 3.02
