5/12/2025 5:07:00 PM | Baseball
PITTSBURGH – The Pitt Panthers will host the Penn State Nittany Lions on Tuesday evening at PNC Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6 PM.
The last time these two teams met at PNC Park, the Panthers beat the Nittany Lions handily, 11-3, in 2023. Current Panthers Jayden Melendez, Ryan Reed and Anthony LaSala all saw action in that contest. Melendez went 1-3 with two runs scored, Reed quickly retired the two batters he faced and LaSala brough home a run.
Pitt took care of business at Penn State earlier this season. They bested the Nittany Lions, 9-2, at Medlar Field in late March.
Notes
- This season, Pitt has nine comeback victories when trailing in the fifth inning or later. Three of which have come when Pitt was down to their final three outs.
- Pitt's come-from-behind win at Wake Forest on Saturday was the tenth time the Panthers have tied or take the lead in a game in the eighth inning or later this season.
- Sebastian Pisacreta tallied seven hits, three home runs, six RBIs and a double in Pitt's four games last week. Pisacreta had the first multiple-home run game of his career on Saturday at Wake Forest. He went 3-4 with two home runs and four RBIs.
- David Pedanou is 19-19 in stolen base attempts this year. With one more stolen base, he will have swiped the most bags in a season by a Panther since 2004. In the outfield, he has 87 putouts with one outfield assist and has yet to record an error this year.
- First baseman Luke Cantwell is hitting .354 with 63 hits, 43 RBI, 18 doubles and a triple this year. Cantwell is fourth in the ACC in doubles. He is second all-time in program history in hit-by-pitches with 30.
- LHP Ethan Firoved ranks second in the ACC in saves with eight. In twenty-one appearances this year, Firoved has a 2.96 ERA with two wins and 66 strikeouts. He now has over 150 strikeouts as a Panther.
- In the Backyard Brawl last Tuesday, the Panthers scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning as they roared back to walk-off No. 12 West Virginia.
