
Panthers Ready for Round One vs. Louisville

PITTSBURGH - The No. 15 seeded Panthers (27-26, 10-20) will play the No. 10 seeded Louisville Cardinals (35-20, 15-15) in the first round of the 2025 ACC Baseball Championship on Tuesday evening at 5 PM.
For the second time in three years, the ACC Baseball Championship is being held at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, NC. Pitt's last postseason win came in that very ballpark two years ago when they blasted five home runs to beat Notre Dame in the pool play round, 9-5.
The updated ACC Baseball Championship format is a 16-team, single-elimination bracket. The top four seeds earn a two-round bye, seeds five through eight get a one-round bye and the remaining eight seeds play in the first round. Seeding is based on performance in the regular season.
ACC BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
• The Pitt Panthers draw the 15 seed in the 2025 ACC Baseball Championship. The championship is being held in Durham, NC at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
• Pitt's last postseason win came the last time the tournament was held there in 2023.
• The Panthers will face the 10-seeded Louisville Cardinals in their first round matchup.
LAST TIME VS. LOUISVILLE
• The last time the Panthers and Cardinals met on the diamond was in the pool play round of the 2022 ACC Baseball Championship in Charlotte,NC.
• Pitt bested then No. 9 ranked Louisville, 6-5, on a walk-off in the bottom of the ninth inning to advance to the semifinal round.
• Pitt has won three of their last four games against Louisville.
SUCCESS IN THE ACC TOURNAMENT
• Prior to last season, Pitt had won at least one game in all four of the ACC Tournaments they competed in.
• The Panthers advanced to the semifinal round in two of those four seasons (2018 & 2022).
• Two of Pitt's six wins have come against ranked opponents in the ACC Tournament.
NOTES
• Pitt has a 6-6 record in their ACC Baseball Championship history. Prior to last season, they had won at least one game in each of the four ACC Tournaments that they appeared in. Pitt has advanced to the ACC semifinal round twice.
• First baseman Luke Cantwell is hitting .332 with 63 hits, 43 RBI, 18 doubles and a triple this year. Cantwell leads the ACC in walks with 54 free passes. He set Pitt's single season walks record last year with 57.
• David Pedanou is 20-20 in stolen base attempts this year. He has swiped the most bags in a season by a Panther since 2008. In the outfield, he has 94 putouts with one outfield assist and has yet to record an error this year.
• LHP Ethan Firoved ranks second in the ACC in saves with eight. In twenty-two appearances this year, Firoved has a 3.20 ERA with two wins and 68 strikeouts. He has now compiled 160 strikeouts as a Panther.
• This season, Pitt has nine comeback victories when trailing in the fifth inning or later. Three of which have come when Pitt was down to their final three outs.
