CLEARWATER, Fla. - Pitt dropped a close 3-1 decision to Eastern Kentucky Sunday morning to close out the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic.
The Panthers were held scoreless through the first five innings before breaking through in the sixth. Pitt tied the game at 1-1 when Macy Hamilton was walked and Tieley Vaughn scored off the wild pitch.
Pitt finished with four hits and drew seven walks, but struggled to capitalize, going 1-for-16 with runners in scoring position and leaving 10 runners on base.
In the circle, Bekah Duck started and worked 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out two. Amelia Long provided relief, pitching 1.0 inning and allowing one run.
Offensively, Alena Ball led the Panthers by going 2-for-3 while Vaughn and Mackenzie Reese each recorded a hit. Vaughn also drew a walk and stole two bases, while Ball added a stolen base.

The Panthers return to action Feb. 12-15 at the Houston Invitational, hosted by the University of Houston.
