Pitt Loses Hard Fought Top-25 Battle

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - No.23 Pitt women's lacrosse fell just short in another ranked ACC matchup Saturday in Massachusetts, losing to No. 16 Boston College 12-8.
Goalie Molly Cain outperformed Eagle goalie Shea Dolce, widely considered the best in the nation at the position, with 11 saves, but it was not enough to lead the visiting Panthers to the win. Kaitlyn Giandonato and Avery Moon each recorded hat tricks to lead the Pitt attack.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Boston College scored the game's first goal, but Pitt countered with three-straight tallies in just over three minutes to establish a two-goal cushion. The Eagles then went on their own 3-0 run between the rest of the first and beginning of second quarters, leading to a 4-3 advantage. The two sides added a goal a piece and BC entered the locker room with the 5-4 lead.
The Panthers scored three to the Eagles' two on the way to a 7-7 tie heading to the final quarter of play in Chestnut Hill. The three-goal period featured scores by Maureen McNierney, Kara Trullender and one from Giandonato giving her a fifth game in 2026 with at least a hat trick.
The Eagles put five goals in the back of the net before the lone Pitt goal of the final frame, giving the hosts a lead that would not be relinquished.
GAME NOTES
- Molly Cain stopped 11, the fourth time this season she's made at least 10 saves
- Moon achieved her fourth game of the year with at least five points (3G, 2A)
