Five-Homer Day Powers Pitt Past Akron

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt Panthers (23-12, 6-9 ACC) got back in the win column on Wednesday night with a 13-2 victory over the Akron Zips (16-21, 6-12 MAC) in seven innings.
Pitt needed just three big innings offensively to pull away from the Zips. The Panthers slugged five home runs in the win, four of which came in the fifth inning. Their 75 home runs so far this season are five shy of breaking the single-season program record.
Kai Wagner had his first multi-hit home run game this season and finished the day 2-for-2 with three RBI, three runs scored and two walks. He finished off Pitt's back-to-back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning with his second home run of the day. It was the first time Pitt hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in a game since April 23, 2025, vs. Mercyhurst.
Lorenzo Carrier hit his team-leading 14th home run of the year and drove in a pair of runs in his 2-for-3 day. Caden Dulin extended his hitting streak to fifteen games on Wednesday with his solo home run in the fifth inning. Catcher Sebastian Pisacreta also drove in a pair of runs and went 1-for-2 with a home run, two runs scored and two walks.
In a predetermined bullpen day, seven different Panthers saw action on the mound. Chase Kriebel served as Pitt's "opener" and struck out two batters in the top of the first inning. He was one of five Panthers to not allow a single run this evening. Andrew Luczak struck out a pair and didn't allow a hit in his top of the sixth inning. Sam Bryan finished it off for Pitt with a scoreless, hitless top of the seventh.
Lorenzo Carrier opened up the scoring with an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning that scored AJ Nessler from second. Kai Wagner blasted a two-run home run in the next at-bat to give the Panthers an early 3-0 lead.
Akron got a run back in the second inning but Pitt turned a double play to end the inning and the threat.
The Panthers' patience at the plate paid off in the bottom half of the inning, scoring five runs on one hit as they took a seven-run lead. Pitt worked seven walks in the inning and plated runs on two of those free passes by Joey Baran and AJ Nessler. Carter Dierdorf drove in Pitt's fourth run of the inning on an RBI single to shallow right field. The Panthers took advantage of Akron's miscues and scored their other two runs on a wild pitch and a balk.
The Zips added one more run in the top of the third inning and the Panthers led 8-2 through three.
After two more shutout innings from the Panther pitching staff, Pitt scored five more runs on four home runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Panthers led off the inning with back-to-back-to-back home runs from the heart of the order in Caden Dulin, Lorenzo Carrier and Kai Wagner. Sebastian Pisacreta finished off the inning with a two run-shot for Pitt's fourth long ball of the inning. The last time the Panthers hit four home runs in an inning was also the last time they went back-to-back-to-back, doing so last year against Mercyhurst (April 23).
The Panthers went on to win 13-2 in seven innings over the Akron Zips on Wednesday.
