HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – The Pitt Panthers dropped a midweek contest to the Marshall Thundering Herd, 8-0, in six innings Tuesday evening at Dot Hicks Field.

The game was scoreless through the opening frame as Kyra Pittman worked a full count to three straight batters and recorded a strikeout to strand two runners and keep Marshall off the board.

Marshall broke through in the bottom of the second, using a walk and an RBI double from Haleigh Adkins to take a 1-0 lead. The Thundering Herd added another run in the third inning on an RBI single by Bella Gerlach to extend the advantage to 2-0.

The Panthers were limited offensively early, managing just one hit — a Calle Henne single — through the first three innings.

Marshall added to its lead in the fourth with three consecutive hits to open the frame, including back-to-back doubles that made it 4-0. Mia Kliethermes entered in relief after the first three batters of the inning. Ava Blake followed with a two-run home run later in the inning to push the margin to 6-0.

Pitt had only two baserunners through five innings before Ahmari Braden drew a two-out walk in the sixth, marking the Panthers' third baserunner of the game.

Marshall added a solo home run by Sydni Burko in the bottom of the sixth. Gerlach then delivered an RBI double to left-center field to secure the run-rule victory.

Marshall pitcher Maddie Veal faced 19 batters and finished with a one-hit shutout, allowing one walk while striking out six in 6.0 innings.

Pitt returns to Vartabedian Field for a weekend series against Clemson, beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
