PITTSBURGH- Kaitlyn Giandonato and Lainey McGonagle were named to the IWLCA All-Region Second Team, as announced by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Thursday afternoon. It marks the third time in program history Pitt has placed a player on an IWLCA All-Region team and the second time the Panthers have earned multiple selections in the same year.
The IWLCA has honored 128 student-athletes in Division I with a selection to one of the All-Region teams for 2026. These student-athletes are now eligible to be named to a national IWLCA All-American team. The IWLCA will announce the 2026 All-American teams on May 21.
Giandonato ranked among the ACC's best in goals (46) and points (60) and sixth in points per game (3.75) in 2026 while also finishing sixth in the conference in goals per game (2.88) and tying the program single-season goals record. She closed the year with 89 shot attempts, three game-winning goals, 35 draw controls and 15 caused turnovers. The season pushed her to 106 career points, making her just the fourth Panther in program history to reach the century mark, and 84 career goals, third all-time in program history.
McGonagle anchored the Pitt defense with 39 caused turnovers on the year, the most by any Panther in a single season and ranking third in the conference in caused turnovers per game (2.44). The defender also contributed 25 ground balls across 16 games, assisting the Panthers to their best season to date.
The Panthers finished the 2026 regular season 9-7 overall, closing the year on a four-game winning streak while also securing their first win over a top-15 opponent and first conference road victory in program history.
