Pitt Welcomes #7 SMU for Blackout Night in ACC Debut

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt men's soccer team opens ACC play Friday, Sept. 11, hosting No. 7 SMU at Ambrose Urbanic Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., with live coverage available on ACCNX.
OPENING KICK
- Pitt enters ACC play at 3-1-1 on the season, coming off a 1-0 win over Penn on Monday at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
- Friday's match is just the second all-time meeting between Pitt and SMU. In the two programs' first meeting in 2024, Pitt beat the Mustangs 3-1 at Washburne Stadium in what was SMU's first-ever ACC match.
- Friday marks the first meeting between the two schools at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
- SMU is Pitt's third top-10 opponent of the season, following season-opening matchups with then-No. 7 Maryland and then-No. 8 Michigan State.
BLANKED PENN FOR THIRD WIN
- Pitt held off Penn 1-0 on Monday night at Ambrose Urbanic Field, riding a second-half goal from Mamadou Tall to improve to 3-1-1 on the season.
- Tall scored the game-winner in the 79th minute off a feed from Caden Grabfelder and Miguel Bertran, his second goal of the year.
- Jack Moxom made two saves to secure the shutout, his second straight after the scoreless draw at Michigan State.
- The Panthers outshot Penn 11-7 and won the shots-on-goal battle, 7-2.
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
- SMU comes into Pittsburgh undefeated at 5-0-1 and ranked No. 7 nationally, fresh off a 3-0 win over Incarnate Word on Monday.
- Wingback Jaylinn Mitchell leads the ACC with five assists and was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 1.
- SMU was one of four ACC teams ranked in this week's United Soccer Coaches top 25, alongside Stanford (No. 1), Clemson (No. 17) and Louisville (No. 21).

- Friday's match is a Blackout, with all fans encouraged to wear black.
- The night also serves as First Responders and Military Appreciation Night.
- Friday Happy Hour will take place ahead of kickoff.
FAN ADVISORY
Fans attending Friday's match are encouraged to arrive early and allow extra time, as other events taking place on the athletics campus are expected to increase traffic in the area.
