Pitt Shuts Out No. 17 Cornell, 2-0

PITTSBURGH- Miguel Bertran and Mamadou Tall scored as Pitt defeated No. 17 Cornell 2-0 Tuesday night at Ambrose Urbanic Field. The win improves Pitt to 4-2-1 overall and marks the program's first ranked victory of the season.
Pitt broke through in the 14th minute when Anders Bordoy delivered a cross that found the head of Tall, who flicked it across goal for Bertran to head home and give the Panthers the lead. The goal was Bertran's second of the season.
Moxom was the difference in the second half, turning away five shots to keep the clean sheet intact as Cornell pushed for an equalizer. His saves kept the margin at one goal until Pitt sealed the result late. The shutout was Moxom's third of the season and second against a ranked opponent.
Bordoy set up the second goal in the 84th minute, crossing into the box for Tall to finish first-time for his third goal of the season and put the match out of reach. Tall leads the team in scoring with three goals and seven points on the year, while Bordoy's two assists in the win give him a goal and two assists for four points on the season.
Pitt was outshot 13-8 on the night but finished with two goals on just three shots on target. Tall paced Pitt with four shots on the night and now leads the team in shots on the season with 13, followed by Caden Grabfelder and Bertran with eight apiece.
