Jon Yohman joined the Pitt track and field coaching staff as an assistant coach in September of 2023. Yohman works closely with the throwers after spending the past two seasons at Tiffin University.
For the 2025-2026 season, Yohman developed a deep team with his experience. He coached four ACC medalists, three NCAA regional qualifiers, two NCAA Championship qualifiers, and one US U20 qualifier. Yohman had two standout athletes in Niya Crawford and Emeka Ugwu. Crawford broke the school record and became an All-American in the outdoor shot put. Ugwu broke the school record, finished second-place in the ACC Championship, and became an All-American in the outdoor shot put.
In his 2024-2025 season, coaching the Panthers, he had six ACC medalists, four NCAA regional qualifiers, and led throwers to achieve 16 Top 10 Performances of Pitt’s all-time records. Yohman coached Norrah Lemongo to break the school record for the indoor shot put and earn a bronze medal in the weight throw at the ACC Indoor Championship.
In his inaugural season with the Panthers, he coached two ACC medalists, three NCAA regional qualifiers, and helped throwers reach 17 Top 10 Performances in Pitt's record books. Yohman coached Foluke Olujide-Aijbade to several accolades in the weight and hammer throws. During this season, Olujide-Aijbade broke school records in both the weight and hammer throw, earned Second Team All-American for the weight throw, and finished second-place in the Weight Throw at the ACC Indoor Championship.
As the assistant throws coach at Tiffin, Yohman coached the Dragons to 14 throwing events at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships, which resulted in eight All-American performances.
Prior to his time at Tiffin, Yohman was an assistant coach at Robert Morris where he coached the throwers and pole vaulters and served as the head strength and conditioning coach for all track and field members. During his two-year period with the Colonials, he led Keturah Hunter to school records in the weight throw and hammer throw, guided four individuals to conference championships, as the Colonials claimed ten conference medals in the throws.
Yohman began his collegiate coaching career in 2019 as a volunteer coach at West Virginia. He also owns a strength and throws club called Ox Strength, which he started in 2017.
As a student-athlete at Penn State, Yohman advanced to the NCAA East Preliminaries in three consecutive years, from 2016-2018. In 2017, he made it to the finals in the shot put, finishing eleventh place, receiving All-American and Academic All-American honors. The New Wilmington, Pennsylvania native earned his bachelor's degree in kinesiology and his master's degree in educational leadership.
Yohman and his wife Anna have a daughter, Adeline, and a son, Beau.
