Men's Soccer Drops 5-0 Decision to Western Michigan
10/9/2004
KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The men's soccer team posted a 5-0 loss to Western Michigan University on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers move to 3-4-3 overall.
The matchup featured Pittsburgh head coach Joe Luxbacher sharing the coaching sideline with a familiar face, WMU head coach Chris Karwoski. Karwoski previously served for five seasons under Luxbacher.
Goalkeeper Andy Jorgensen made five saves on the game while WMU goalkeeper Ian Spooner had three. Pittsburgh finished the game with twelve shots and eight corner kicks.
The Broncos scored three goals in the first 25 minutes of play, including a pair by Ryan Goldman. Goldman finished with a five-point afternoon and Dustin Snyder chipped in a pair of scores.
Goldman started the scoring at the 13:28 mark after a combination play by Jeff Jaber and Chadd Schurr, touching the ball inside the left post. Snyder knocked home a Goldman shot attempt four minutes later to give the Broncos a 2-0 advantage over the Panthers.
Goldman again found the back of the net when Edgar Rivera sent him through at the top of the box and Schurr headed home a long service from Bill McClellan 16 seconds before halftime to move the Broncos to a 4-0 lead.
Snyder capped the scoring for WMU in the 77th minute when he floated a shot from a tough angle at the near post over the keeper and into the net.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, October 16, to face Boston College in a Big East Conference match. The game will be played at Chesnut Hill, Massachusetts at 2:00pm.
