WASHINGTON, D.C.--The Georgetown men's soccer team defeated Pittsburgh 3-1 Wednesday afternoon at North Kehoe Field. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 10-7 overall and 6-4 in the conference, while the Panthers move to 3-11-1 overall and 2-9 in the league.
Georgetown hopped on the board quickly, opening up an early 2-0 lead. Late in the 14th minute, Grasso took a feed from McAnally down the middle of the field. Grasso took a couple dribbles and fired a shot from just inside the box past a diving Jordan Marks.
Less than two minutes later, Georgetown would tally another goal when McAnally came away with the ball after his own deflected shot. His second shot would hit the right post and tickle over the goal line at 24:54 for his second goal of the year and a 2-0 Hoya lead, which they took into the half.
Play was slow early in the second half, until Pittsburgh found the net late in the 68th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1. Eric Jaeger stole the ball deep in the Georgetown end and fired a shot from the far side past junior keeper Andrew Kezsler.
Grasso, with his second goal of the game, widened the lead back to two goals just under four minutes later. On a failed clear attempt by the Panther defense, Grasso collected the ball and fired a shot from the top of the box past Marks at 71:28 for the 3-1 final.
The Panthers conclude their 2005 season on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m., when they host the Providence Friars at Founders Field.
