PITTSBURGH — University of Pittsburgh men’s soccer player Joe Prince-Wright was the first Panther player in history to be invited to the British University Team trials.
Prince-Wright, a Southampton, England native, received an invitation in 2008 to compete alongside 30 other British based players competing in the United States. The trials took place last December at the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom.
Team GBR competes in the World University Games that take place every two years. Although Prince-Wright did not make the 2009 team which competed in Belgrade, Serbia this past July, he’s looking forward to competing for a spot in 2010.
As the youngest contender at the trials last December, he was thrilled to get the chance to go toe-to-toe with 30 of the top British collegiate players in the U.S.
“It was a great experience to play with these players and a great honor to be selected even though I didn’t make the final squad,” said Prince-Wright.
The trials in 2010 will decide which players will join the squad for team GBR in the 2011 World University Games held in China. The World University Games are the third largest event after the Olympics and Asian Games, taking place every two years at sites across the globe.
