
Men's Soccer Dominates Vulcans in Exhibition, 6-1

PITTSBURGH — The University of Pittsburgh men’s soccer team opened up the 2009 season in strong fashion, defeating California University of Pennsylvania in an exhibition match, 6-1 at Founders Field.
The Panthers jumped out to an early lead on Matt Baker’s goal in the 29th minute. Seven minutes later, Sam Luffy made it 2-0 in favor of the home team when he found the back of the net.
Pitt went on to score three times in the final six minutes of the opening half of play, building a 5-0 advantage. Baker added his second goal of the half in the 39th minute while Terry Boland found the net in the 43rd minute and Justin Boehm tacked one on for good measure with less than a minute to go in the half.
Mike McDade made it 6-0 Panthers after his 52nd minute penalty kick found the back of the goal. The Vulcans did manage to get on the board minutes later when Felipe Souza scored on his third shot of the day.
The Panthers will continue exhibition action next against cross-town rival Duquesne University on Tuesday, August 25th at 6 p.m. at Duquesne.
