CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Pitt men's soccer team (5-6-3, 0-5-1 ACC) dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 19 Virginia (8-3-2, 3-2-1 ACC) Friday night at Klöckner Stadium.

"I thought there were some positives," head coach Joe Luxbacher said. "We played in spurts, but really well at times. We scored a big goal, but let Virginia get back in the game. We made some mistakes like giving the ball up on our end, which resulted with them scoring on the counter. It was tough and we had chances. When we beat them wide, we couldn't get a good serve in and wasted opportunities. The guys battled and gave a good effort, but it's a tough loss."

The Panthers took the first lead of the match in the 30th minute thanks to freshman Matt Bragg who notched his first collegiate goal. Bragg took advantage of a deflected pass in the box and sent it past UVA's goalie, Jeff Caldwell.

Pitt's lead wouldn't last long as Virginia's Edward Opoku scored in the 47th minute, picking up the Cavaliers momentum.

UVA's Wesley Wade became a major threat in the last half of the game as he netted two goals in the 62nd and 75th minutes, securing the Cavaliers victory.

Senior goalkeeper Dan Lynd made four saves tonight, bringing his career total to 217.

The Panthers attempted nine total shots, including three on goal.

Pitt returns home Tuesday, Oct. 20, for a non-conference matchup with Harvard at 3:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
