PITTSBURGH - The Pitt men's soccer team (5-7-3, 0-5-1 ACC) is set to face Duke (7-6-2, 1-4-1 ACC) for its final home game of the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 24, at Ambrose Urbanic Field. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
The ACC-foes will clash for the fourth time, as the Blue Devils lead all meetings, 3-0. Duke claimed the most recent matches in 2014 (2-1) and 2013 (3-0). The teams first met in 1955 in Pittsburgh.
SENIOR SEND-OFF
Saturday's game will serve as the Panthers Senior Night as midfielder Patrick Dixon, goalkeeper Dan Lynd, midfielder Steven Machi, and defender Andrew Wright will be recognized prior to kickoff. Lynd and Wright have started every game for the Panthers this season. Midfielder Dixon leads the team in points (11) with his three goals and five assists, and has been a consistent starter for Pitt throughout his two years.
LAST TIME OUT
Pitt fell to Harvard, 3-2, on Tuesday at home. The Panthers led 2-1 early on, but couldn't find an answer after the Crimson notched two goals in the second half.
I AM THE CAPTAIN NOW
Senior captain and goalkeeper Dan Lynd continues to add to his prolific career at Pitt. Below is a snapshot of where Lynd's career numbers rank in program history:
- 1st - Goalie Minutes Played (4,501)
- 1st - Goals Against Average (1.64)
- 4th - Shutouts (15)
- 6th - Saves (220)
- 8th - Save Percentage (.728)
HOME COOKING
The 2015 schedule features 11 total home games at Ambrose Urbanic Field and just six away matches. After completing 10 home games thus far, the Panthers have walked away with four wins, four losses and two ties. This matchup against Duke for Senior Night will be Pitt's final home game of the season.
SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS
Duke enters Saturday's game fresh off of a 2-1 overtime victory against No. 10 Elon earlier this week. That win marked their second straight victory over a ranked opponent as they defeated No. 23 NC State last Friday, 6-2. Despite those two impressive wins, the Blue Devils sit fourth in the Coastal Division of the ACC.
Duke's attack is spearheaded by senior midfielder Zach Mathers. Mathers leads the ACC in points with 18 and is tied for the conference lead in goals with seven. Sophomore forward Jeremy Ebobisse and sophomore midfielder Brian White have each scored five goals this season and have recorded 14 and 11 points respectively. This potent attack has the Blue Devils tied for second in the ACC in goals with 29, and third in the conference in total points with 84.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will travel to South Bend, Ind., to take on Notre Dame in the final match of the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN3.
