PITTSBURGH – The Pitt men’s soccer team (3-1-1) is set to face the Boston College Eagles (3-2-0) in its second conference game of the 2015 season. The ACC foes will square off in Newton, Mass., at the Newton Campus Soccer Field on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m.
Saturday’s game will be the 16th meeting between the two schools as Boston College leads the all-time series, 10-4-2. The teams last met in 2013 that resulted in a Panther loss at home, 2-1.
LAST TIME OUT
Pitt began ACC play last weekend with a 4-0 loss to No. 14 Wake Forest. Despite the loss and snapping the team’s shutout streak, Pitt remains tied with the Demon Deacons for shutout percentage (0.80) and currently ranks fourth in the country.
FRESH START
As the Panthers continue their 2015 slate, multiple freshmen have been making strong impressions on the field. Curren Page, Tobias Marshall-Heyman and Matt Nozedar have already netted their first career goals through the opening four games and have logged notable minutes.
Charlotte, N.C., native Kyle Brathwaite is the only freshman that has started every game for the Panthers thus far totaling 470 minutes. The defender was a key component of Pitt’s four consecutive shutouts to start the season.
SCOUTING BOSTON COLLEGE
The Eagles have lost two of their last five games, most recently to ACC opponent NC State as they dropped a 2-1 decision to the Wolfpack in double overtime.
Although suffering two losses, Boston College started the season on a high note winning its first three games, including a 4-2 victory over No. 23 SMU. Highlighting the Eagles squad is freshman forward Simon Enstrom who leads the team in points after netting three goals and one assist. Close behind is fellow freshman forward Trevor Davock who has recorded two goals and one assist. In goal, sophomore Cedric Saladin has made 14 saves thus far for the Eagles, claiming a .667 save percentage through 470 minutes of action.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will return to Ambrose Urbanic Field on Tuesday, Sept. 22, as they host Robert Morris at 7 p.m. Following the non-conference matchup, Pitt will hit the road again to take on Syracuse Friday, Sept. 25.
