MEN'S RESULTS | WOMEN'S RESULTS

PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh men's and women's cross country teams kicked off their regular seasons Saturday morning at the Duquesne Duals held in Pittsburgh's Schenley Park.

The women's team was runner-up to Duquesne in a field of seven schools, while the men's team finished third out of five.

AT THE FINISH LINE

Competing at his first collegiate event, freshman Nick Wolk led the Panthers with a third-place finish in the men's 8K race at 26:23.4. Fellow rookies Jackson Morton and Drew Glick also placed in the top 10, finishing seventh (23:36.6) and 10th (26:50.6), respectively.
Junior Madison Brannon was Pitt's top finisher on the women's side, placing eighth with a personal record of 19:06.4 in the 5K. Seven other student-athletes posted PRs, including Rebecca Peters (19:12.8), Sarah Kochinsky (19:16.6), Erin Keelan (19:46.0), Stephanie Lednak (20.07.0), Rachel Mueller (20:14.8), Emily Phillips (20:22.8) and Rachele Cerrone (20:55.3).

COACHES' CORNER

"I thought that all the young ladies we had racing today did very well," women's coach Adam Bray said. "We were able to execute our plan and improve upon our times from last year, which is always a good thing, especially this crew. They're really driven by the numbers, and they want to see improvement with that."
"We opened up our freshmen and our younger guys today, giving them an opportunity to gain some experience," men's coach Bryan Jackson said. "I thought they showed exactly what I expected them to show - great competitive toughness and being able to compete with some of the top guys from other teams in this area. I think that's a really great statement race for us."

LOOKING AHEAD

Pitt will hit the road for its next event, the Tommy Evans Invitational, hosted by Akron on Thursday, Sept. 9. The women's 5K race will start at 5:30 p.m. ET, followed by the men's 4-miler at 6:15 p.m. ET.
