The Opening Tip
- Pitt (8-9, 0-4) hosts Georgia Tech (9-7, 2-1) Saturday, Jan. 13 at the Petersen Events Center. The game will be broadcast on the ACC Network (WTAE in Pittsburgh) and is scheduled to tipoff at 2 p.m.
- The Panthers have used 12 different starting lineups this season, tied for the most in the NCAA. Pitt has started five freshmen in each of the past three games.
- Ryan Luther, one of four players in the ACC averaging a double-double, will be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a stress reaction in his right foot. Luther averaged 12.7 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game over the opening 10 games of the season before suffering the injury.
- Pitt fell 87-52 to No. 7 Duke Wednesday evening at the Petersen Events Center. The Blue Devils made 12 three-point field goals and shot 53.1 percent (34-of-64) from the field in the contest.
- Jared Wilson-Frame led the Panthers with 17 points, going 7-of-17 from the field, but just 1-of-9 from three-point range.
- Parker Stewart tallied 10 points for his fifth consecutive double-figure scoring games, while Kene Chukwuka came off the bench to contribute eight points and four rebounds.
- Pitt shot 33.3 percent (17-of-51) from the field, including a season-low 18.2 percent (4-of-22) from three-point range.
- The Panthers matched a season high with 15 offensive rebounds, but were outscored 22-7 in second chance points.
- Pitt has started four or more freshmen in each of the past seven games. Marcus Carr (7) Khameron Davis (7), Terrell Brown (5), Shamiel Stevenson (5), Parker Stewart (4) and Peace Ilegomah (2) have each started games in that span.
- Parker Stewart is averaging 11.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per game, while going 12-of-30 (.400) from three-point range, over the past five contests. He has scored in double figures in five consecutive games and eight times overall.
- Jared Wilson-Frame leads the team in scoring at 13.1 points per game and three-point field goals with 34. He has scored in double figures 13 times and made three or more three-point field goals in a game five times. Wilson-Frame is averaging 18.5 points per game over the past two contests.
- Marcus Carr is averaging 12.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game in Pitt's eight wins. He is 34-of-57 (.596) from the field, including 13-of-24 (.542) from three-point range, in those contests. Carr is off to a slow start in league play averaging 7.0 points per game, while shooting 27.8 percent (10-of-36) from the field
- Shamiel Stevenson has scored in double figures eight times and is 10th among ACC freshmen in scoring at 9.9 points per game. He is second on the team in rebounding (5.5 rpg.), while shooting a team-high 51.8 percent (58-of-112) from the field.
- Pitt's freshman class has accounted for 69.2 percent (198-of-286) of the team's scoring over the past five games. The group has 10 of Pitt's 14 double-figure scoring games in that span.
- Khameron Davis is shooting 50.0 percent (30-of-60) from the field, including a team-high 51.6 percent (16-of-31) from three-point range. He is averaging 7.3 points per game while going 13-of-23 (.565) from three-point range over the past nine games.
- Parker Stewart is 26-of-64 (.406) from beyond the three-point arc and is averaging 9.1 points per game over the past 12 contests. Stewart has made two or more threes in eight of the past 12 contests and is second on the team with 29 three-point field goals.
- Jared Wilson-Frame has made 11 consecutive free throws and shares the conference lead in free throw percentage (1.000) in league play.
- The Panthers' Canadian tandem of Marcus Carr and Shamiel Stevenson combines to average 20.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game, while shooting 47.8 percent (116-of-243) from the field. The pair has combined for 17 double-figure scoring games.
