PITTSBURGH – Freshman Parker Stewart led the University of Pittsburgh men's basketball team (8-22, 0-17 ACC) with 12 points en route to a 66-37 loss to No. 1 Virginia (26-2, 15-1 ACC) Saturday at the Petersen Events Center.
Stewart recorded his 12 points via a 4-of-10 shooting effort from the field, including 4-of-8 from three-point range. Junior Jared Wilson-Frame added nine points on 3-of-7 shooting from the field, including a 3-of-6 effort form beyond the arc. Redshirt senior Jonathan Milligan, in his last home game for the Panthers, added eight points, two rebounds and two assists.

Jerome scored 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting and Johnson added 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field and a perfect 2-of-2 showing from three.

The Cavaliers displayed their defensive chops from the opening tip, holding the Panthers scoreless through the first 4:28 of gameplay. The Panthers first basket didn't come until the 9:59 mark, when Wilson-Frame hit a three to bring the score to 14-6. From there, the Cavaliers closed the first half on a 16-1 run to head into the break with a 30-7 lead.
The second half saw much more competitive action between the two teams. The Cavaliers and Panthers traded baskets through the first eight minutes, putting the score at 46-22 with 12 minutes remaining, before Virginia went on a 9-3 run to earn a 30 point lead with under nine minutes left in regulation. Pitt closed the game outscoring the Cavaliers 12-11 after that point, but ultimately suffered the 66-37 defeat.
