The Opening Tip
- Pitt (8-23, 0-18) opens New York Life ACC Tournament play against Notre Dame (18-13, 8-10) Tuesday, March 6 at the Barclays Center. The contest, scheduled to tipoff at 2 p.m., will be broadcast on ESPN2 and the ACC Network.
- Pitt has dropped 18 consecutive games, the longest streak in program history. The Panthers have dropped 19 consecutive games against ACC opponents dating back to a 61-59 win over Georgia Tech in the opening round of the 2017 ACC Tournament.
- The Panthers have used 17 different starting lineups this season with freshmen combining to make 98 starts on the year.
- Pitt dropped its final regular season matchup, 73-56, against Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish outrebounded the Panthers 51-35, including a 19-11 edge on the offensive glass.
- Jared Wilson-Frame recorded 20 points in the contest, marking the fourth time this season he has scored 20 or more points in game. He also knocked down five threes in the game for the fourth time this season.
- Terrell Brown chipped in 10 points, eight rebounds and five blocks. His eight rebounds tied a season high while the five blocks were his second-best mark of the season.
- Shamiel Stevenson added 10 points in the game, recording his 13th double-figure scoring output of the season.
- Pitt recorded a season-low seven turnovers in the contest but could not overcome 33.3 percent shooting from the field.
- Pitt is 4-4 all-time in the ACC Tournament with opening round wins in each of the past two seasons.
- The Panthers are facing Notre Dame in back-to-back games, marking the first time they have played the same opponent in consecutive games since facing Washington State in a best of three series for the 2012 CBI championship.
- Pitt has started three or more freshmen in a game 22 times, including 20 of the past 21 contests. Freshmen have combined to make 98 starts as Marcus Carr (26), Khameron Davis (22), Parker Stewart (19), Terrell Brown (16), Shamiel Stevenson (13) and Peace Ilegomah (2) have each made starts this season.
- Pitt freshmen combine to average 36.6 points per game. The group has accounted for 59.1 percent (1135-of-1921) of the team's scoring.
- Pitt's freshman class has accounted for 65.5 percent (704-of-1075) of the team's scoring over the past 18 games. The group has 29 of Pitt's 41 double-figure scoring games in that span.
- The Panthers have made 10 or more threes in a game 10 times; including three of the past five contests. Pitt's 249 made three-point field goals are the second most in program history, while its 762 three-point attempts are the most in program history.
- Newcomers have accounted for 85.2 percent (1637-of-1921) of the team's scoring, 85.7 percent (834-of-973) of the team's rebounding and 80.6 percent (312-of-387) of the team's assists.
- Parker Stewart is 64-of-156 (.410) from beyond the three-point arc over the past 26 games. He has made two or more threes in a game 19 times and scored in double figures on 14 occasions in that span. Stewart was 3-of-17 from three-point range over the first five games of the season.
- Shamiel Stevenson leads the team in field goal percentage (.514) and has scored in double figures 13 times. Stevenson also leads the team with 137 rebounds on the year. Steven Adams (2013) was the last Panther freshman to lead the team in field goal percentage and rebounds.
- Jared Wilson-Frame is averaging 14.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.2 made threes per game over the past 11 contests. He has scored in double figures in nine of the past 11 games and made three or more threes in nine of those contests.
- Jared Wilson-Frame (71) and Parker Stewart (67) are the third set of Panther teammates to each make over 60 three-point field goals in the same season. Jason Matthews (87) and Sean Miller (68) accomplished that feat during the 1989-90 season, while Cameron Johnson (78) and Jamel Artis (74) each topped 60 made threes a year ago. Wilson- Frame (17) and Stewart (15) have combined for 32 three-point field goals over the past five games.
- Marcus Carr leads Pitt in minutes (886), starts (26), assists (127) and steals (20). He has scored in double figures 14 times and ranks 10th among ACC freshmen in scoring at 9.7 points per game.
- Parker Stewart scored in double figures in 11 of 18 ACC contests and averaged 10.8 points per game in league play. He ranked fifth in the ACC in three-point percentage (.425) and tied for sixth in three-point field goals (2.67 3pg.) in conference play.
- Jared Wilson-Frame leads the team in scoring at 12.8 points per game and three-point field goals with 71. He has scored in double figures 22 times and made three or more three-point field goals in a game 14 times.
- Shamiel Stevenson has scored in double figures in four of the past six games. He is averaging 9.8 points per game on 54.1 percent (20-of-37) shooting from the field.
- Marcus Carr has 302 points and 127 assists on the season, becoming the first Pitt freshman to record over 300 points and 125 assists in a season.
- Terrell Brown raised his averages to 5.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game in league play. He recorded 34 or his 43 blocks on the season in ACC play.
- Pitt is 3-3 all-time at the Barclays Center. The Panthers won their first three games at the venue before dropping the next three contests, including a pair of games earlier this season.
