The Opening Tip
• Pitt hosts Louisville Wednesday, Jan. 9 at the Petersen Events Center. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. with Raycom (WTAE-D2 / CoziTV) televising the contest.
• Nine different players have scored in double figures for Pitt this season with freshmen Xavier Johnson and Trey McGowens leading the way with 14 and 10 double-digit scoring efforts.
• Five of Pitt's top six scorers are newcomers with first-year players accounting for 67.2 percent (717-of-1066) of the team's scoring on the season.
• Pitt ranks third in the ACC and 11th nationally in field goal percentage defense (.378). The Panthers have held seven opponents below 40.0 percent shooting from the field.
• A freshman has led the team in scoring in each of the past 10 games and 11 times overall on the year. Trey McGowens has led the offensive attack in each of the past three games.
• The Panthers have dropped 23 consecutive games in ACC play including each of the past 11 contests at the Petersen Events Center. The Panthers last conference win was an 80-66 decision over No. 17 Florida State Feb. 18, 2017.

• The Panthers' 248 overall home wins since the start of the 2002-03 season is tied for the fifth most in the NCAA in that span.
• Pitt is averaging 36.1 points in the paint with a season-high 50 points in the paint against Central Arkansas and New Orleans. The Panthers have scored 40 or more points in the paint five times and have a +8.4 points in the paint margin.
• Pitt is averaging 80.9 points per game on 48.1 percent (275-of-572) shooting from the field in its 10 wins. In comparison, the Panthers have averaged just 64.2 points on 37.7 percent (86-of-228) shooting from the field in their four losses.
• The Panthers rank fourth in the ACC with 18.0 made free throws per game and have made 20 or more free throws in a game six times. Freshmen Xavier Johnson (4.7), Trey McGowens (4.5) and Au'Diese Toney (2.9) combine for 12.1 made free throws per game, while shooting 80.2 percent (170-of-212) from the charity stripe.
• Pitt currently ranks 11th in the NCAA in KenPom Raw Defensive Efficiency. Last season, the Panthers ranked 289th in that category.
• Pitt has drawn 38 offensive fouls through 14 games with Trey McGowens (12) and Xavier Johnson (10) leading the way.
• The Panthers are 8-1 on the season when scoring 70 or more points in a game. Jeff Capel-led teams are 126-24 (.840) when topping the 70-point plateau.
• Xavier Johnson ranks among the league leaders in scoring (11th - 16.1 ppg.) and assists (3rd - 4.8 apg.). Johnson, the only player in the ACC averaging at least 15.0 points and 4.5 assists per game, is the first Pitt freshman to score in double figures in 14 consecutive games.
• The Panthers have started three freshmen - Xavier Johnson, Trey McGowens and Au'Diese Toney - in each of the first 14 games of the season. The trio is averaging 38.4 points, 13.0 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 4.4 steals per game. They have combined for 31 double-figure scoring games with all three scoring 10 or more points in the same game five times.
• Trey McGowens is averaging 19.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.7 steals per game, while going 18-of-27 (.667) from the field over the past three games. He has led the team in scoring in each of the past three games and five times on the season.
• Jared Wilson-Frame has made a three-point field goal in 25 consecutive games and in 40 of 45 games played at Pitt. He is on pace to set a Pitt record for three-point field goals per game (2.36 3pg.). Wilson-Frame ranks eighth in the ACC in three-point field goals (2.46 3pg.).
• Au'Diese Toney, a 6-6 guard, has grabbed eight or more rebounds in a game seven times and leads the Panthers in rebounding at 6.1 rpg. Toney is one of four players 6-6 or under in the ACC to rank in the top 20 in rebounding (17th).
• Terrell Brown has recorded two or more blocked shots in four of the past five contests. He is averaging 3.6 blocks in 21.6 minutes per game over the past five contests.
• Khameron Davis has come off the bench to average 5.3 rebounds in 17.5 minutes per game over the past four games. The 6-4 guard posted a career-high eight rebounds in the ACC opener against North Carolina.
• Trey McGowens has collected two or more steals in six of the past seven games and is averaging 3.6 steals per game in that span. He has an ACC-best 32 steals on the season.
