
Pitt Drops Road Game To Boston College Tuesday, 69-57

CHESTNUT HILL, MA – The Pitt women's basketball team (11-14, 2-12 ACC) fell on the road Tuesday night to the Boston College Eagles by the score of 69-57.
Dayshanette Harris led the way with her 11th double figure scoring game of the season as she finished with 16 points and five rebounds on 7-for-18 from the floor. Emy Hayford finished off her night with 10 points, two assists and two steals while Rita Igbokwe finished off her night with seven points, seven rebounds and four blocks in the loss.
The Panthers couldn't ask for a better start to the game as they were able to net the first 10 points of the game while the defense held BC to 0-4 shooting and four turnovers in the first four minutes of action. Hayford opened the scoring with a layup before Amber Brown finished off a three-point play and Harris netted a deep triple to force the Eagles into a timeout. After the timeout, the Eagles finally got on the board as they hit a pair of triples but Liatu King finished off a layup to give the Panthers the 17-10 lead through one quarter.
Harris provided the Panthers with some early offense in the second quarter as she netted back-to-back floaters in the lane before Igbokwe finished off a layup after a great feed by Hayford to give Pitt the 25-16 lead at the media timeout. The Eagles came out of the timeout strong as they netted 11 straight points to take the 27-26 lead into the locker room.
After a Harris jumper made it 29-28 in favor of the Eagles, Boston College scored eight straight points to force the Pitt timeout with the Panthers trailing 37-28 three minutes into the quarter. After four straight by the Eagles gave them their biggest lead of the night, 44-29, the Panthers responded with 12 straight points to get back into the game. Harris started the run with an and one layup and Taisha Exanor banked in a triple and hit a floater in the paint to make it 44-41 in favor of the home team. Sandrine Clesca netted a pair of free throws to make it 46-43 in favor of the Eagles but the home team hit a three-point prayer at the buzzer to take the 49-43 lead into the final quarter.
The Panthers cut the deficit to four, 51-47, early in the fourth as King netted a pair of free throws and Harris knocked down a jumper but the Eagles responded with a 9-1 run to regain the 60-48 lead. Brown finished off a layup and free throw to get Pitt back within nine, 60-51, but the Eagles wouldn't let the Panthers get any closer as they secured the 69-57 home win.
Brown finished off her night with nine points, two assists and two steals while King finished with six points and four boards in the loss.
As a team, the Eagles outrebounded Pitt 38-27 while both teams netted 30 points in the paint. Pitt lost the turnover battle 25-22 as the Eagles turned those chances into 26 points.
Boston College was led offensively by Taylor Soule who netted 26 points, five steals and four rebounds while Cameron Swartz finished with 22 points and eight boards in the win.
