
Panthers Head To #16 Duke For Thursday Night Game On ACC Network

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's basketball team (7-14. 0-10 ACC) returns to the road Thursday night with another ranked opponent on the slate as they travel to Durham, NC to battle #16 Duke at the Cameron Indoor Stadium. Thursday's game tips at 6:00 pm and will air live on ACC Network.

- Senior Amber Brown is on a roll for Pitt as she has scored in double figures in nine of her past 10 games including scoring 11 at Boston College Sunday. Over that stretch, Brown is averaging a team-high 13.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.4 steals while shooting 52.3% from the floor.
- Junior Liatu King is enjoying the best season of her career as she is averaging a career-high 10.3 points and 7.9 rebounds while shooting 41.3% from the floor. King ranks 5th in the ACC in rebounds (7.9 rpg) and 8th in blocks (1.4 bpg).
- The Panthers hit the road Thursday for another ACC matchup as they take on #16 Duke at 6pm on the ACC Network.
- The undersized forward duo of Liatu King and Amber Brown are combining to average 20.9 points and 13.1 rebounds while shooting 45.9% from the floor on the year.
- With her eighth point Sunday, senior captain Dayshanette Harris became the 20th member of the Panthers' 1,000-point club. She is the first Panther since 2018 (Yacine Diop) to net her 1,000th career point. Harris is also the first Panther since Brianna Kiesel (2011-15) to record 1000+ points, 300+ rebounds and 250+ assists in a career.
- This meeting marks the 15th between the two programs with Duke winning all 15.
- The Blue Devils own a 6-0 record against Pitt in Durham including a 74-55 victory over Pitt in their last trip down in 2019.
- Duke handed the Panthers two losses last season including a 55-52 win in the first round of the ACC Tournament.
- The Duke Blue Devils enter Thursday's game with an 18-3 overall record and an 8-2 ACC mark as they fell last time out at Florida State, 70-57. The Blue Devils are currently ranked #16 in the latest AP Top-25 poll.
- Duke is being led offensively by Celeste Taylor who is averaging 11.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 2.1 assists while connecting on a team-high 28 three-pointers. Elizabeth Balogun is averaging 10.3 points and 5.6 rebounds while shooting 51.2% from the floor.
- Transfer Kennedy Brown has started all 21 games while averaging 7.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and a team-high 1.5 blocks while Shayeann Day-Wilson is averaging 9.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
- As a team, Duke is averaging 68.1 ppg while ranking 5th in the NCAA allowing just 52.0 ppg.
- Senior guard Dayshanette Harris has been a great player over her career for Pitt. With the additions to the squad, Harris has moved to the two guard spot this season.
- On the year, Harris is averaging 21.3 minutes, 8.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists while shooting a career-high 40.3% from the floor.
- Last time out, Harris became the 20th member of the Panthers' 1,000 career point club as she nailed a pulled up jumper from the free throw line. She is the first member of the club for Pitt since Yacine Diop in 2018.
- Harris finished off the loss at Boston College with a team-high 13 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists off the bench in 26 minutes of work. She has now scored in double figures in back-to-back games and has led Pitt in scoring in three straight.
- Earlier this season in the win over Bryant as she netted a season-high 17 points, three rebounds and three steals in 23 minutes of work. She finished her afternoon going 6-for-10 from the floor and 4-for-7 from deep, a new career-high for three-pointers made in a game.
- For her career, she has a team-high 51 double digit scoring games including 11 this season.
- She has nine career games with 20+ points including two against Virginia Tech.
- She is the first Panther since Brianna Kiesel (2011-15) to net 1000+ points, 300+ rebounds and 250+ assists in a career.
- Harris is the fastest Pitt player to 800 career points (69 games) since assistant coach Brianna Kiesel netted her 800th career point in her 57th career game.
- The freshmen trio of Avery Strickland, Aislin Malcolm and Marley Washenitz have been a pleasant surprise this season for Pitt.
- Strickland has appeared in all 21 games while earning 10 straight starts for Pitt. She is averaging 20.6 minutes, 6.2 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists while shooting 35.7% from the floor and connecting on 26 triples.
- Last time out, Strickland posted her second double figure scoring game of her career as she led Pitt with 13 points, three rebounds and two assists in 20 minutes of work. She finished the game going 5-for-9 from the floor and 2-for-4 from behind the arc.
- In the win over Loyola (MD) last week, Strickland netted a career-high 17 points, two rebounds and two steals in 22 minutes of work. She finished off her night going 7-for-8 from the floor and 3-for-4 from behind the arc in the win.
- Fellow freshman guard Marley Washenitz is flourishing for Pitt so far this season. On the year, Washenitz is averaging 16.1 minutes, 3.6 points, a team-high 2.0 assists, 1.7 rebounds and 1.1 steals while making 10 starts at point guard.
- In a road game at Syracuse, Washenitz posted a career-high seven assists. She is the first Pitt freshman since Jasmine Whitney in 2016 (10 vs. Charlotte, 12/4/16) to record at least seven assists in a game.
- Aislin Malcolm has brings a great shot to the floor for Pitt. She currently ranks third on the team with 19 three-pointers made.
- On the year, Malcolm is averaging 11.4 minutes, 3.8 points and 1.0 rebounds while shooting a team-high 41.3% from behind the arc.
- Malcolm currently ranks 8th among freshmen in the NCAA (with a minimum of 46 attempts) in three-point field goal percentage (41.3%).
- The Panthers return home Sunday afternoon as they welcome the Virginia Cavaliers to the Petersen Events Center for a 2:00 pm tip. Sunday's game will air live on ACC Network.
- Sunday's game will also be Pitt's 16th Annual Pink The Pete Game to raise awareness for the battle against breast cancer. Pink t-shirts will be handed out while supplies last at the marketing table on the concourse level. A breast cancer survivor recognition will also happen at halftime.
