
Pitt Opens Six-Game Homestand Thursday Against Cal State Fullerton

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's soccer team opens a six-game homestand at Ambrose Urbanic Field Thursday, Aug. 28 (7 p.m.) against Cal State Fullerton. The Panthers (4-0-0) have posted three shutouts, while outscoring the opposition 9-1 through the first four matches of the season.
THE OPENING KICK
- The Panthers are looking to start the season 5-0-0 for the fifth time in the past six seasons. Pitt has had seven win streaks of five or more matches all-time with six of the seven streaks coming in the past five seasons.
- Pitt has had five different goal scorers over the first four games with Katie Ellermeyer (4), Lola Abraham (2), Magaret Wilde, Magali Gagne, and Sofia Doheny each finding the back of the net.
- Ellermeyer scored twice in Sunday's win at Dayton and is tied for the ACC lead in goals (4) and game-winning goals (2). She is also tied for first among NCAA freshman in goals.
- Sophomore Lola Abraham has looked strong in her return to the lineup after missing the second half of last season with a knee injury. She has scored goals in two of the first four games of the season, while playing 70 or more minutes in all four matches.
- Junior captain Olivia Lee has played the full 90 minutes in all four games this season and in 11 of the Panthers' past 14 matches dating back to last season.
- Veteran goalies Ellie Breech and Abby Reisz have combined for 16 saves and a .941 save percentage.
- Ben Waldrum is the first Pitt women's soccer coach to lead the Panthers to victories in each of the team's first four matches of their first season at the helm of the program.
OTHER NOTABLES
- Pitt has used a different starting lineup in each of its four matches this season. Lucia Wells, Olivia Lee, Sophie Rourke, Sage Stelzer, Lola Abraham, and Mariama Dabo have each started all four matches for the Panthers.
- Senior goalie Ellie Breech has recorded clean sheets in each of her two starts this season. The program's career leader in goalie wins (26), Breech has stopped all eight shots faced in 2025.
- Freshman Adi Bianchin has recorded an assist in two of her three games played and shares the team lead in assists with veteran forward Margaret Wilde.
- The Panthers have recorded 10 or more wins in four of the past five seasons and have totaled 66 victories since the start of the 2020-21 season.
- Pitt returns 12 letterwinners from the 2024 squad that finished the year 9-6-3. The Panthers lost five of its top six goal scorers from last season but return a solid core of players led by goalie Ellie Breech, outside back Olivia Lee, forward Lucia Wells, forward Lola Abraham and midfielder Magali Gagne.
- The Panthers' roster entered the season with 13 career goals in the Pitt uniform. Katie Zailski has six career goals at Pitt but is currently sidelined due to injury, while Magali Gagne is the second leading returning goal scorer.
- Gagne had a goal and an assist in the Panthers' 3-1 win over Monmouth for her second career match at Pitt with three or more points. She has missed the past two matches with a foot injury.
- Junior Sofia Doheny scored her first career goal in the 3-1 win over Monmouth. She was injured in Pitt's win over Ohio and is expected to miss a couple weeks of action.
HOME SWEET HOME
- Pitt has a 24-4-2 home record over the past four seasons at Ambrose Urbanic Field and is 44-17-5 at home during the Waldrum era (2018-present).
- The Panthers are 65-52-10 all-time at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
THE OPPOSITION
- Cal State Fullerton enters Thursday's contest with a 2-0-1 record that includes wins over Portland (1-0) and UTEP (2-1). The Titans season opener against Florida Gulf Coast was cancelled due to weather conditions and they also played ACC opponent Cal to a scoreless draw. Isabella Cruz leads the Fullerton offense with two goals and an assist, while goalie Isaac Ranson has posted two shutouts and a .889 save percentage.
