PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's soccer team slipped to 4-1-0 on the season following a 1-0 loss to Cal State Fullerton Thursday evening at Ambrose Urbanic Field. The Panthers posted a lopsided 18-8 shot advantage and generated nine corners but could not find the back of the net on a damp night in Pittsburgh.
Cal State Fullerton scored the lone goal of the match in the 16th minute against the run of play as Isabella Cruz collected a layoff from Sail Bozinovic and knock in a shot off a deflection from Pitt goalie Ellie Breech for a 1-0 lead.
The Panthers nearly leveled the match in the 43rd minute as Margaret Wilde collected a pass in the box and took one touch before ripping a left foot strike on goal. Cal State Fullerton goalie Isaac Ranson made a terrific stabbing foot save to prevent the goal.
Pitt entered the break with a 12-6 shot advantage and a 6-4 edge in corners.
The second half provided to be much of the same as Pitt held possession and pressed the box with crosses and thru balls, but the Titans defense remained stout to steal the win and move to 3-0-1 on the season. The loss for the Panthers was just their fifth defeat at home in the past four seasons.
