
Pitt Men and Women Claim First Place at Panther Invitational

PITTSBURGH – Behind standout performances from Thomas McMahon and Ella Cook, the Pitt men's and women's cross country teams both secured first place team finishes at the Panther Invitational Friday morning at Schenley Park.
The meet, hosted annually by Pitt, featured the men's and women's programs from Carnegie Mellon and Mount Union, respectively.
The Pitt men, paced by McMahon, finished with 17 points as the Panthers' entire top five spread finished in the top seven. McMahon clocked 14:45.20 en route to a first place individual result, while Luke Simpson (14:45.30), Nolan McGinn (14:47.80) and Damian Frausto (14:49.90) finished in second, third and fourth, respectively.
Nick Steinfeldt completed the Panthers' top five spread, finishing seventh overall in 14:53.90.
The Pitt women, led by Cook, recorded 27 points – narrowly edging Carnegie Mellon (29). Cook, a native of Glen Mills, Pa., clocked 17:40.10 – finishing second overall. The Panthers' spread also included: Maureen Cheruiyot (3rd - 17:42.90), Camy Kiser (4th - 17:51.00), Gianna Cagliola (8th - 17:58.80) and Christina Elliott (12th - 18:04.60).
