
Women's Soccer Returns Home to Face SMU

PITTSBURGH — The Pitt women's soccer team (5-4-2, 1-2-0 ACC) returns home Thursday, Sept. 25, to host SMU (6-3-1, 0-1-1 ACC) at Ambrose Urbanic Field for the first time in program history. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
The Opening Kick
- Pitt returns to its home turf after improving to 3-0 on the road with a 2-1 victory at Boston College last Thursday. The win marked the Panthers' first in ACC play this season.
- Thursday's match marks the first-ever meeting between the Panthers and the Mustangs.
- Pitt is seeking its first home win in conference play after back-to-back losses to Cal and Stanford.
- The matchup against SMU is the Panthers' final home contest until they host NC State on Oct. 17.
- Freshman Katie Ellermeyer leads the team with six goals this season. She netted the game-winner against Boston College and currently ranks second nationally in goals scored by a freshman.
- Senior Margaret Wilde is enjoying a breakout season, earning five starts in 11 appearances. She ranks second on the team with three goals, including one goal and one assist in the win over Boston College.
- Junior Sage Stelzer notched her third assist of the season in the Boston win, delivering the key pass that set up Ellermeyer's decisive goal.
- Pitt's defense has been a steady presence, anchored by Olivia Lee and Stelzer on the back line. Lee leads the team in minutes played with 990. The unit held Boston College to just four second-half shots to help secure the victory.
Scouting the Opponent
- SMU enters Thursday's match still searching for its first ACC win after a 1-0 home loss to NC State. The Mustangs opened conference play with a 1-1 draw at Syracuse.
- The Mustangs finished non-conference play with a 6-2-0 record, including four shutouts.
- Offensively, SMU is led by Lydia Ungashick, who has three goals this season, including one in the draw against Syracuse. Eleven different players have scored for the Mustangs this year.
