Luke Simpson Shatters School Mile Record

BOSTON – The Pitt distance group posted a school record and two additional top 10 program times at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational at the Boston University Tennis and Track Center this Friday and Saturday.
FRIDAY RECAP
- Luke Simpson broke the men's mile school record with a time of 3:57.40. Sam Bair (2006) and Finn Walsh (2024) previously shared the school record of 4:00.14, making Simpson the first in program history to run a mile in under four minutes. The Mars, Pa. native finished sixth at the meet.
- Also competing in the mile, Graham Heinrich stopped the clock in 4:12.95 and Jacob Abraham finished in 4:19.27.
- Damian Frausto and Ethan Feinstein, competing in the men's 3K, both recorded personal bests of 8:15.88 and 8:25.69, respectively.
- To conclude the first night of action, Thomas McMahon and Quintin Gatons recorded personal best times in the 5K. McMahon,
SATURDAY RECAP
- The women's mile Ella Cook (4:54.98) and Christina Elliott (4:58.62) led the way with new best times. Gianna Cagliola put together a race time of 5:00.64 and Ava Lane stopped the clock in 5:06.77.
- In the 3K race, Maureen Cheruiyot was Pitt's top finisher with a speed of 9:40.50. Freshman Elena Barrall had a personal best 9:49.62 time.
- Camy Kiser, the sole 5K runner on the women's side, closed the competition with time of 16:55.28.
UP NEXT
- ACC Indoor Track and Field Championship qualifiers will return to Boston to compete in the three-day meet from Feb. 26-28.
