STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Pitt split a pair of games Friday at the Texan Classic, dropping a 3–1 decision to Tulsa before bouncing back with an 8–3 win over Texas A&M–Corpus Christi.
Game One: Tulsa 3, Pitt 1
The game remained scoreless until Tulsa broke through in the bottom of the second inning, pushing across a run on a groundout with the bases loaded. Pitt starter Kyra Pittman settled in after the early run, limiting damage and keeping the Panthers within striking distance.
Pittman was strong in the circle early, allowing two hits, one run, one walk, and one strikeout through the first three innings while facing 14 batters. She went on to work six innings, surrendering three runs, just one earned run, and three strikeouts.
Pitt responded in the top of the fifth inning to knot the game at 1–1. Alena Ball laid down a bunt single to drive in the tying run, while Addison Oberbreckling advanced to third on the play and later scored on a muffed throw to first.
Tulsa answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning, capitalizing on Panther defensive miscues to reclaim the lead. Tulsa added an insurance run later to take a 3–1 advantage after five innings.
Pitt threatened late but was unable to generate enough offense, finishing with four hits on the day. Ball led the Panthers offensively, going 2-for-2, while Oberbreckling added a double.
Game Two: Pitt 8, TAMUCC 3
Pitt rebounded in its second game of the day with an 8-3 victory over Texas A&M–Corpus Christi. The Panthers wasted little time getting on the board as KK Esparza opened the scoring with a solo home run, setting the tone for Pitt's offense.
Pitt added two more runs in the top of the third inning before Esparza delivered went yard again, hitting a three-run home run, for her second long ball of the day and extend the Panthers' lead to 6–0.
TAMUCC responded with three runs to cut into the deficit, but Pitt answered again in the fifth. Esparza doubled and later scored on a Gracie Helton double to push the lead to 7–3. The Panthers tacked on one more run to close out the scoring and secure the 8–3 win.
Esparza powered the Pitt offense, finishing with two home runs and a double in the victory.
