Pitt Falls in Series Opener to Cal

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt Panthers (22-10, 6-7 ACC) fell in game one of their series with Cal (16-16, 2-11 ACC), 12-1, on Friday afternoon.
Caden Dulin extended his hitting streak to 12 games, going 1-2 with an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the third inning. AJ Nessler went 1-3 with a walk on Friday. Pitt's leadoff man has recorded a hit in 24 of his 31 games played this season.
Brandon Reiter and Sam Bryan each tossed scoreless innings in relief for the Panthers and combined for five strikeouts. In five appearances this season, Reiter has allowed just one hit while striking out eight batters.
Sebastian Pisacreta kept Cal baserunners off the base paths through the first three innings, catching two stealing in back-to-back innings to start the game.
Pitt loaded the bases with a pair of hit-by-pitches and a walk in the bottom of the third inning. Caden Dulin drove in Pisacreta from third on a sacrifice fly to center as the Panthers led 1-0 after three.
Cal went in front with a ten-run top of the fourth inning, taking a 10-1 lead through four.
The Golden Bears added a pair of runs in the top of the sixth as they went on to win 12-1 in seven innings.
Game two is slated for a 3 PM first pitch Saturday afternoon.
