Panthers Drop Game Two vs. Golden Bears

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt Panthers (22-11, 6-8 ACC) lost Saturday's contest to Cal (17-16, 3-11 ACC), 14-6, at Charles L. Cost Field.
Caden Dulin and Joey Baran each logged three-hit games on Saturday. For Dulin, it was his third three-hit game of the year as he finished the day 3-5 with a run scored. He has recorded a hit in each of the last 13 games. Baran went 3-4 with an RBI, a double and a run scored. Trey Fenderson recorded his 13th multiple-hit game of the season, going 2-4 with an RBI while Lorenzo Carrier drove in his 51st run of the year on his RBI single in the fifth inning.
Cal opened the scoring with three runs on three hits in the top of the first inning and led 3-0 after two.
The Panthers and Golden Bears traded runs in the third inning, making it a 4-1 ballgame through the first three innings.
Derrick Tarpley Jr. solely manufactured Pitt's run in the third, lining a triple to center and scoring on a wild pitch.
Cal added six runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 10-1 lead on Saturday.
The Panthers plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on an RBI double from AJ Nessler and an RBI single from Lorenzo Carrier.
Pitt continued to fight in the seventh, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning. Caden Dulin singled to lead off the inning and later scored on a Trey Fenderson RBI knock to right center. Joey Baran beat out an infield single for his third hit of the day as Kai Wagner scored from third to plate Pitt's fifth run of the game. The Panthers trailed 13-5 after seven innings.
AJ Nessler led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a walk and trotted home on a wild pitch after a Caden Dulin single and Lorenzo Carrier walk moved him up to third. Pitt left the bases loaded in the eighth as Cal went on to win game two, 14-6.
The Panthers finish their series with the Golden Bears tomorrow afternoon at 1 PM at Charles L. Cost Field.
