Arnon and Braggs Capture Penn Relays Titles

PHILADELPHIA – Pitt concluded the three-day Penn Relays with strong performances, including two first place finishes by Uri Arnon in the triple jump and Somiyah Braggs in the 100 meters dash.
THURSDAY RECAP
- Alexandria Scott and Jana Bruses each ran a personal best in the 400 meters hurdles.
- Scott, who entered the race with Pitt's sixth fastest time in program history at 58.63 cut her time down to 58.24 and remains in sixth on the top 10 list. The Aberdeen, NJ native finished seventh at the meet.
- For the first time in her career, Bruses ran sub-59 seconds in the event, stopping the clock in 58.96. A native of Girona, Spain, Bruses is now tied for 10th all-time at Pitt. She finished 15th overall.
FRIDAY RECAP
- The men's 4x100 relay team advanced to the finals with their time of 39.99 in the preliminary heats. Darren McQueen Jr., Che Nwabuko, Jaden Shelton and Malachi Williams ran the fifth fastest program time and will compete for a Championship Wheel on Saturday.
- Somiyah Braggs had the fastest time in the women's 100 meters heats as she tied her personal best of 11.45 in Friday's qualifying heats. Braggs advances to Saturday's championship race.
- Jaden Shelton finished second in his heat and sixth overall as he crossed the finish line in 13.87. With that pace, Shelton moves on to Saturday's championship event.
- Josiah Montgomery earned ninth in the men's shot put (college) with a mark of 16.87 meters.
- Maliah Edwards ran a time of 14.50 in the 100 meters hurdles.
- The women's 4x400 quartet of Alexandria Scott, Alma Evuna Eki, Jana Bruses and Faith Dennis produced the 10th fastest time in the relay in program history, collectively running a time of 3:37.60.
- The men's 4x400 relay, consisting of Malachi Williams, Cole Strother, Darren McQueen Jr. and Colin Kravitz, put forth a 3:12.01 time.
- Niya Crawford threw for a new personal best in the discus. Her 48.96 meters mark earned third in the competition. The Upper Marlboro, Md. native was already fourth in program history with her previous best of 48.27 meters. She remains in fourth, coming just shy of the 48.98 meters mark set by Trecia Kaye-Smith in 1998.
- Uri Arnon capped off the day by taking first in the men's triple jump (college) with his mark of 15.37 meters.
SATURDAY RECAP
- Alesia Rengle finished in a five way tie for third, clearing 1.70 meters in the women's high jump championship.
- Niya Crawford earned 13th in the women's shot put championship with her 14.50 meters throw.
- After Darren McQueen Jr., Che Nwabuko, Jaden Shelton and Malachi Williams advanced out of the preliminary heats on Friday, the men's 4x100 relay squad secured sixth place in the Championship of America, running a time of 40.82.
- Somiyah Braggs garnered first place in the women's 100 meters Championship of America, coming from behind to cross the finish line first in 11.86.
- Emeka Ugwu, competing in the men's shot put championship, placed fourth with his day's best mark of 18.26 meters.
- Jaden Shelton also placed fourth in the men's 110 meters hurdles championship, stopping the clock in 14.18.
