Pitt Closes Home ACC Slate With 14-11 Win Over Florida State

PITTSBURGH – Pitt women's lacrosse closed out its home ACC slate with a 14-11 victory over Florida State Sunday at Highmark Stadium, improving to 7-7 on the season for the most ACC wins in a single season in program history.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The teams traded the lead early before settling into a 4-4 tie after the first quarter. Pitt pulled ahead for good in the second, scoring four of the final five goals of the half to take a 9-7 lead into the break. The Panthers pushed the margin to 11-7 through three quarters and held off a late Seminole push in the fourth, with Kaitlyn Giandonato's man-up goal extending the lead to five at 14-9 before Florida State closed to 14-11.
Giandonato led the way with five goals and an assist. Avery Moon added three goals and two assists, while Paige Telatovich and Anna Capobres each scored twice. Julia Bruno and Maureen McNierney each chipped in a goal. Molly Cain made six saves in net while Aidan Carr won eight draw controls on the day.
GAME NOTES
- Giandonato's five goals give her 39 on the season.
- Pitt won the draw battle 14-13.
- The win gives Pitt three ACC victories on the season, a new program record.
- Moon's 25th assist of the season broke the program's single-season record for assists.
- Moon became Pitt's all-time points leader with 125 career points, passing the previous mark with her third goal of the game.
- Sunday's game marked Pitt's final home ACC matchup of the season at Highmark Stadium.
