New four-pillar framework aims to strengthen connections between Forever Panthers, current student-athletes and each other
PITTSBURGH — Pitt Athletics today announced the 2026-27 Strategic Plan for the Varsity Letter Club (VLC), a new framework designed to engage Forever Panthers in building lasting connections, honoring their legacy and elevating the student-athlete experience.
The plan is organized around four pillars: Mentorship, Investment, Legacy and Engagement.
MENTORSHIP
The VLC will expand its Panthers to Pros Mentorship Program, with a goal of reaching 250 mentors by May 2027. Additional mentorship components include career panels and Life After Sport programming, NIL guidance and real-world brand advice, alumni speaking engagements and increased VLC member participation in Career Networking Night.
INVESTMENT
The plan reintroduces VLC membership through direct contributions to the Panther Club, directing that investment toward the current student-athlete experience, transition to life after competition and creating experiences for Forever Panthers to connect. The new structure is as follows:
- Winter '25 and Spring '26 graduates: complimentary membership
- '24 and '25 graduates: $150 contribution
- '77-'23 graduates: $250 contribution
- '76 and earlier graduates: $150 contribution
The VLC is also building a comprehensive benefit structure across young alumni, heritage alumni and membership levels, including access to football, men's basketball and Olympic sport ticket rates and other exclusive benefits.
Memberships can be purchased through the Varsity Letter Club site with monthly payment plans available.
LEGACY
A reimagined VLC Jacket Ceremony will bring together new inductees, historic VLC members and athletic administration each semester to celebrate success. The plan also calls for enhanced storytelling through a modernized email campaign strategy, social media, newsletters and webinars, along with continued support for Awards of Distinction and Hall of Fame programming.
