Thompson, McCray Honored as PNC Achievers of the Week

PITTSBURGH – Two freshmen, football's Demetrice McCray and volleyball's Trinity Thompson, have been tabbed as the PNC Achievers of the Week for stellar performances last week.
Wide receiver McCray caught three passes for 73 yards and two touchdowns in Pitt's 59-0 win over Bucknell on Saturday. He became the first Pitt freshman with multiple touchdown receptions in a game since Tyler Boyd caught three at Duke in 2013. McCray's first collegiate touchdowns came on receptions of eight and 48 yards in the second quarter from QB Mason Heintschel. He led ACC true freshmen in receptions, receiving yards and touchdown catches for the week. McCray tied for the FBS lead among true freshmen in touchdown receptions and ranked fifth in receiving yards.
Libero Thompson had a career-high 14 digs as the No. 2 ranked Pitt volleyball team swept No. 12 Stanford Sunday night 25-21, 25-23, 25-21. Thompson was a force defensively as the Panthers held the Stanford offense in check throughout the night. The freshman had 17 digs and four assists on the weekend as Pitt also posted a three-set sweep of Cal on the way to a 12-0 start to the season.
