PITTSBURGH – Pitt women's basketball head coach Robin Harmony announced the addition of Shavonte Zellous to the coaching staff as an assistant coach.
Zellous returns to Pittsburgh after a 12-season playing career in the WNBA. She joins the Panthers most recently from the Connecticut Sun, where she has served as Manager of Basketball Development during the 2026 season.
A 5-10 guard, Zellous was drafted 11th overall in the 2009 WNBA Draft by the Detroit Shock. She went on to play for the Detroit Shock (2009), Tulsa Shock (2010), Indiana Fever (2010-15), New York Liberty (2016-18), Seattle Storm (2019) and Washington Mystics (2021). She earned WNBA All-Rookie Team honors in 2009 and was named the league's Most Improved Player in 2013 en route to an All-Star selection that same season. Zellous won a WNBA Championship with the Fever in 2012 and helped Indiana reach the WNBA Finals again in 2015. Zellous has also played professionally overseas in Turkey, Latvia, Israel and France.
During her career as a Panther, Zellous was a three-time All-Big East First Team honoree (2007, 2008, 2009) and the league's Most Improved Player in 2007. She averaged 22.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game over her career and became just the third player in Pitt women's basketball history to reach 2,000 career points.
