- Men's Swimming Diving Coach
A fixture on the Panther athletic scene for over two decades, Julian Krug enters his 22nd season as Pittsburgh[apos]s head diving coach.
Krug believes that preparing oneself to the best of his or her abilities is the most important thing his performers should strive for, as opposed to focusing on more wins and losses.
[quote]I believe that if you train hard with a positive attitude, winning will take care of itself,[quote] Krug said.
Success has been synonymous with Krug[apos]s divers, as they have consistently garnered high honors. During the past eight seasons, he has produced five repeat NCAA qualifiers, three All-Americans and four Honorable Mention All-Americans.
Men[apos]s Swimming Head Coach Chuck Knoles appreciates Krug[apos]s contributions to the Panther swimming and diving program. [quote]The extremely positive influence a gentleman like Julian Krug has on a program is immeasurable,[quote] Knoles said. [quote]His ability to bring out the best in his divers is second to none.[quote]
[quote]I firmly believe that motivating young people to be the best that they can be is the most important thing we as coaches can do,[quote] Krug said.
A standout diver himself, in 1974 Krug became the first person to successfully execute a 5½ front somersault dive from 10 meters. He performed the dive at Kimball[apos]s Diving Camp in Brandon, Fla.
During the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, Krug and his wife, Dorothy, worked as statisticians for NBC-TV. They also spent three weeks in Atlanta doing the same for the 1996 Summer Olympics.
For the last four years, Krug has served as a coach for members of the Senior National team at the Mexico Cup. He additionally helped develop two Olympian divers in David Pichler (1996, 2000) and Karen LaFace (1992).
Krug recently had the prestigious honor of being elected to the United State Diving Board of Directors and was also appointed to the NCAA Rules Committee. He is a member of the U.S. Diving Education Committee, is a National Spotting Certifier and has served as a member of the Senior National Rules Committee.
Krug and his wife reside in Kennedy Township with their two children, Cassidy (15) and Kyle (11).
